Right now units are sorted by type, weight, and faction. Would it be too much trouble to add a era categorization? say, Age of War, Star League, Succession War, Clan Invasion, Jihad, Dark Age?

There was much discussion along that very topic many moons ago, if I recall correctly. I'd suggest reviewing the discussion at http://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleTechWiki_talk:Project_BattleMechs or contacting Scaletail (the current lead, I believe) on his talk page.
