Neveron on a modern browser?

hello everybody!
good to see that neveron is back! I am a passionate btech fan, and have been following it over the past few years. Now, i would love to give this game a try, but fail even to successfully create an account. As noted on the site, only internet explorer 6 seems to work properly, but this browser is now over 10 years old.
Besides from being an awful vulnerability by itself, IE6 can not be used on any current operating system (neither the last two generations of MS OSes, nor any other of course). It carries a huge bull's eye in front of itself, and a huge advertisement with the letters: "Exploit me!"
Support for browsers like Firefox or opera would be very important for this game imho. About 90% of all internet users (ie8/9 & Firefox have about 70% market share according to most statistics services) simply won't be able to play this game, due to the page not working properly. :-(
I don't write this posting because i want to complain or something. I salute you developers for investing time in this platform! And I'm also absolutely sure you are aware of the browser situation. Support for modern browsers would also offer a lot of new features and technologies, which would also make live for you admins a lot easier. Can a computer geek support you somehow at making the game available for current browsers?
cheers, Metro

The game works fine on IE8/9, and apparently on Firefox if you use ietab. I agree it does need to be brought up to date though.

Yea. Chrome, webkit, They all stick to standards, so supporting one of those means the website will work nearly everywhere else too. (Excluding chromes experimental features though, they are googles playground) Especially as neveron may then be played on everyones new toys: smartphones! ... would be really usefull!
@etab: unfortunately there is no real difference in using IE or ietab. All ietab does, is to deligate that tab to the IE engine (a little internet explorer if you will) into a tab. It's like painting your green car red, it's still your car, even though it's red now.

well there may be 'no real difference' in what the rendering engine does, but for the people who dont want to load IE on thier systems, and already have firefix, the IETab addon options are a simple solution. There have been several 'versions' of IETab products over the last few years. IETab, CoralTab and IETab2 are a few of the past versions that I can recall. Im currently using IETab 2, with Firefox 3.x [I have not crossed into FF 4.x, as I have heard many reports that addons dont play as nice and so forth with the newest FF release]
Maxthon [sp?] Im also told works well with Neveron
As for IE, all versions from IE 6 forward do seem to work with Neveron.
The old statement on the login pages and so forth were put up after the changes by MS removed the code used to create Neveron maps and the 'zoom' ability. If you still run an older version of IE6, you can actually still use zoom2 and zomm3 [zoom4 was never really a zoom, but a simple picture file of Neveron from years ago]. I agree that trying to keep the flawed/ security flawed browser on your system just to use zoom2/ zoom3 is crazy...but players do what players do.
I have not really seen any other major hinderance using IE7+, other than the lack of map zoom.
One of the more 'annoying' changes is that you can no longer open multiple windows [or tabs] to run multiple battles at the same time. You also can no longer open sepertate browser sessions to log into more than one empire at the same time. A lot of little tricks like that no longer work with IE7+, but those are far from preventing the game from being played b y any player.
I have even heard some posative feedback so far on IE9 and Neveron. Ive been told its faster than IE8 when playing Neveron. I persoanlly am using Win7/ IE8 on a desktop and a laptop, and have had no [known] issues playing Neveron.
There may be some minor issues that have not really be identified yet, but all versions of IE do seem to run the game properly.
As for multi browser compatability, yes, thats on the list for future plans for the game. As to when that will actually get accomplished, there is no actual eta at this point.
The suggestion to play on smart phones and such has also been discussed, but that is an option that is much further 'down the list'. There are a lot of other issues that need to be sorted long before we worry about adding new gadget access to the game.

I have been having issues with IE8 when I am in the FFA or really any map for battle. I get some wierd lag constantly that makes me miss all my move and attack timers. It does not do this in IE6 and I can not remember if it did it in IE7.

Just got Neveron working great in Firefox 4.0 with an IE add on. There was only one add on that supported 4.0, and it seems to fix all the issues I was having.
Now I just need to download Mirc again.

i guess you did not understand ShadowMaster: if you do not have IE, there is also no way you can use IEtab. All it does, is loading your currently installed IE into a FF window. Oh, and recommendations of using IE6 in 2011 might today even be called hazardous and dangerous, especially if read by people who don't possess the technical knowledge to understand the consequences.

i personally am getting a comp for 100 bucks with the original win xp and ie6, to get all the zooms to work you cannot let ie install the servicepacks. or pretty much any upgrades. i have done this before, and it works. yes there are security issues, but the only sites i go to on my "nev"-comp are sarna, nev, and mirc. that will allow me to open as many windows as i want, and have chat open on my second monitor, or run as many battles as i want at the same time.
the way nev is running now, i have found that to be the best setup.
i highly reccomend dual 36 inch monitors.
more ram is better, pages load faster.
good hunting all.
p.s. i am not an expert on anything stated above except nev-war, it's just what works for me.

i think the idea of a game being based on ie6 is counterproductive to attracting new players, is it not?

Thanks for the info. I had not realized until now that the addons used the installed copy of IE for the code. I assumed it had what it needed built into the addon. I actually thought I read that was how it was set up, but that may have been on some other version, possibly for some other browser as well.
The fact that a large percentage of home PCs are in fact 'Windows' PCs means that they have IE installed on them by default. Most users of browsers like FF and Chrome use them on Windows systems.
Obviuosly every person will have a distinct set up, and needs to make adjustments to make that system work in a given situation.
As for any recommendations of using any specific version of IE, Neveron does not make any. It simply states that Neveron will only work with IE6 or higher...meaning IE6, IE7, IE8 and IE9...but it will NOT work with IE5, IE4, IE3 and so on.
There are still actually people out there that do not have the latest hardware and software gadgets installed in their homes. There are still people that use DIAL UP for the internet connection, to their ONE computer shared by the family. So as bizzarre as a statement about IE6 or higher may seem, its is indeed a neccessary one.
