==Overview:== GM MechWorks division had long wanted to create a rival for Technicron's Awesome. With the invention of extra light engines and double heat sinks they finally had the technology that would allow them to do so. When engineers began the process of designing the prototype, they tried to save as much money as possible by using proven components that already existed. The decision was made to base the new Mech on their highly effective MAD-3R Marauder design. This was the first of what would later be called the Marauder series.
The word Blitzkrieg means "lightning war" in German. The name was chosen for the designs speed and weaponry. Many people believe that PPCs fire "artificial lightning".
With the fall of the Star League, this design, along with the others in the Marauder series, never left the drawing board.
==Capabilities:== GM wanted a design that was superior to Technicron's AWS-8Q Awesome. The specifications for the new Mech called for more speed and firepower with comparable protection. Designed as a fast intial penetration vehicle, the use of an extra light engine would make the Blitzkrieg significantly faster and more maneuverable than the ponderous Awesome. Although, the vulnerability of its XL engine meant that it would not be as effective in a defensive roll.
Valiant Lamellor armor was less massive and better able to distribute heat and kinetic energy than other armor types. It was considered by many to be the best armor available before the introduction of Ferro-Fiberous armor. The use of fourteen tons of it to protect the Blitzkrieg gave the Mech excellent protection.
The advanced design (for the time) of the Magna Hellstar PPCs meant that they were compact enough for the Blitzkrieg to carry two in each arm. This allowed it to take advantage of the Marauder's more versatile ball-and-socket arm joints, giving it a faster traverse rate and a greater field of fire. The use of 20 double strength heat sinks keeps the heat from the PPCs under control. The engineers wanted to put in one additional heat sink to cool the Mech as it moved but just couldn't find the extra space. That 21st heat sink would have allowed to fire all its weapons and move without heat build-up, but it was just impracticable.
==History:== Unfortunately with the fall of the Star League and the destruction of the First Succession War the knowledge to built the extra light engines and double strength heat sinks was lost. No one knows what became of the single prototype.
In the years since this design was produced Coventry Metal Works produced a new Mech of their own named "Blitzkrieg". This was apparently done as a marketing ploy since the Mech is nothing but a redesign of their venerable Hunchback.
==Variants:== Recently, after the destruction in the wake of the Jihad, a proposal was made to dust off the ancient design and put it into production. To increase its speed to equal that of Clan heavy OmniMechs a suggestion was made to add the rumored self-heating Triple Strength Myomers in the legs and torso. The decision was made to reconsider the proposal when the self-heating TSM became generally available.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== GM MechWorks division had long wanted to create a rival for Technicron's Awesome. With the invention of extra-light engines and double heat sinks they finally had the technology that would allow them to do so. When engineers began the process of designing the prototype, they tried to save as much money as possible by using proven components that already existed. The decision was made to base the new 'Mech on their highly effective MAD-3R Marauder design. This 'Mech would have been part of what would later be called the Marauder series.
The word Blitzkrieg means "lightning war" in German. The name was chosen for the design's speed and weaponry. Many people still believe that PPCs fire "artificial lightning".
Unfortunately with the fall of the Star League and the destruction of the First Succession War the knowledge to built the extra-light engines and double strength heat sinks was lost. The loss of so much advanced technology prevented this design, along with the others in the Marauder series, from entering production. No one knows what became of the single prototype that was built to test the design.
==Capabilities:== GM wanted a design that was superior to the AWS-8Q Awesome in order cut into Technicron's market share. The specifications for the new 'Mech called for more speed and firepower with comparable protection. Designed as a fast initial penetration vehicle, the use of an extra-light engine would make the Blitzkrieg significantly faster and more maneuverable than the ponderous Awesome. Although, the vulnerability of it's XL engine meant that it would not be as effective in a defensive roll where durability is paramount.
Valiant Lamellor armor was less massive and better able to distribute heat and kinetic energy than other armor types. It was considered by many to be the best armor available before the introduction of Ferro-Fibrous armor. The use of fourteen tons of it to protect the Blitzkrieg gave the 'Mech excellent protection.
==History:== In the years since this design was created Coventry Metal Works produced a new 'Mech of their own named "Blitzkrieg". This was apparently done as a marketing ploy since the 'Mech is nothing but a redesign of their venerable Hunchback.
==Variants:== Recently, after the damage to GM's Kathil facility during the Jihad, a proposal was made to dust off the ancient design and put it into production when the line was repaired. Because the BZK-1G-X1 only uses two advanced systems, the XL engine and double strength heat sinks, it was considered to be easier to built than more recent designs. To increase the Blitzkrieg's speed to equal that of Clan heavy OmniMechs an additional suggestion was made to incorporate the rumored self-heating Triple Strength Myomer. The decision was made to reconsider the proposal when the BZK-1G production line was ready. It was hoped that the self-heating TSM would be generally available at that time.

Author's note: I believe I originally came up with this design while playing MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries. In chain fire mode it was devastating against vehicles and aircraft. It could dominate lighter 'Mechs, was equal to, or better than, other heavy designs, and could usually survive a fight against assault-class 'Mechs.
I've been away from BattleTech for so long that I didn't realize that they had reworked the Battle Value system. This reprint was made with Heavy Metal Pro v5.22 r3. It includes BV2 and updated fluff.

Just wondering why you left the Lower Arm Actuators. Why not remove them so you can flip the arms if something gets behind you, or you need to run away?
Potent design.

I believe, based on the fluff and the series of mechs, that this is due to which mech this one is based off of, that one had the lower actuators those it is logical to go with this one having them.
Also having the Rifleman like config is not always a bonus, it is a trick tactic. You use it when you have the advantage or can catch the other team off guard, it is not a use every time you can thing. Mechs have more armor on their front, so walking back wards means they can still fire and take damage with out dying. Just my take on things.

Often if I'm running away it's because I have MORE armor on the back than the front.
And once a fight becomes a brawl you never know when you could get stuck facing the wrong way, or you have a better shot at somebody behind you.

Normally I'd ask, "Wouldn't the better question be, 'Why doesn't it have hand actuators?'", because I'm not a fan of a handless 'Mechs. But with so many heat sinks I can see leaving them off. And since the lower arm actuators aren't good for much without hand actuators...yeah. Might as well go for the cheese of arm flipping.

"HEY! There's a SDR-5V Spider on your back!"
Basically had that happen when I had a WHM-6D. Except it was a Jenner. Never could shake him, and I could only fire one PPC at a time at him.
Flipping arms would have at least allowed me twice as many shots, and a better chance of killing him.

Yeah, since you can't have hands due to space constraints from the DHS, you might as well completely remove the lower arm actuators so you can completely flip your arms to the rear.
My only real issue with this otherwise solid design is the name (And the fact that most Houses have access to the AWS-9Q Awesome, which does this guy's job with a standard engine and GECM)- 4/6 isn't "Blitzkrieg" speed.

Raplet; If you read the fluff you'll see that this was originally a Star League era (2750) design based on the MAD-3R Marauder. The Marauder does have the lower arm actuators, and for the fluff: "Marauder's more versatile ball-and-socket arm joints, giving it a faster traverse rate and a greater field of fire" sounded great. Also, as I said in the "Author's Note" I came up with this design with playing MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries, they don't let you flip the arms in the game.
Prince of Darkness; I realize that 4/6 is average for heavy 'Mechs. For the fluff: GM wanted to advertise it's speed advantage over the Awesome which is 3/5.
The new self-heating Triple Strength Myomer isn't yet available. The BZK-1G-X2, using standard TSM would have a speed of 5/8 when the TSM was active. The BZK-1G-X2 would cost 16,913,750 C-bills and have a BV2 of 2007.

NOTE: I came up with some new fluff for the production model and thought I would post it.
Type/Model: Lightning Storm BZK-2G Tech: Inner Sphere / 3090 Config: Biped BattleMech Rules: Level 2, Standard design

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== In 3085 General Motors Corp. started work on repairing their MechWorks division on Kathil which had been heavily damaged during the Jihad. The task was made harder by the lack of trained workers after the slaughter during the Word of Blake attack. Once the debris had been cleared, an assessment was made of the salvageable equipment. The engineers considered the components that they were able to manufacture, then made a recommendation to the suits as to which design would be easiest to build with the equipment they had available. After some discussion the decision was made to build the old/new design called the Blitzkrieg. In 3090 GM had finally finished immense task of cobbling together a single working mech production line for a 75-ton BattleMech from the fragmentary remains of four different (though similar) lines. After five years of hard work, using a lot of unskilled labor, the line started to produce the the new 'Mechs. Slowly at first, but production is increasing as the new workers learn their jobs and become more efficient.
==Capabilities:== The following component production facilities were deemed salvageable, and were used as part of the pieced together production line.
MAD-3R Marauder: Magna Hellstar PPC and Valiant Lamellor armor.
MAD-5D Marauder: GM Marauder chassis and GM 300 XL engine.
MDG-1A Rakshasa: Double Strength Heat Sinks and Sync Tracker (39-42071) Targeting & Tracking system.
MTR-5K Maelstrom: cockpit, sensors and Life Support systems and the Sony MSF-21 Communications System.
The VP in charge of Marketing at GM wanted some flashy advanced technology that he could use in his sales pitch to prospective buyers. So, Cosby Myomer Research Firm was contacted and an agreement was reached for GM to acquire Cosby ThermoFlex Triple Strength Myomer for use in the 'Mech. The Cosby ThermoFlex is not the "improved" TSM GM hoped for, but it's good enough to improve the 'Mechs top speed under the right heat conditions. As a added enticement, even with the addition of TSM the 'Mech is still cheaper than the Maelstrom or Rakshasa.
Another advantage is that the use of a single type of weapon system makes it easier on the Targeting & Tracking System and less experienced pilots.
The biggest obstacle to the deployment of this old/new 'Mech came not from any technical problem, but from the legal department. It seems that when Coventry Metal Works produced the redesign of their venerable Hunchback they received a copyright for the use of the name "Blitzkrieg". Since GM was not willing to spend any money on legal battles for a name, they needed a new one. The name "Lightning Storm" was chosen in reference to the 'Mech's powerful array of PPCs.
==Variants:== The original BZK-1G Blitzkrieg (now also called the "Lightning Storm") is available to customers who do not wish to pay the extra money for the Triple-Strength Myomer enhanced BZK-2G.
