Overview:
Oh boy, here we go...buzz around the office about an "exciting
new design release". Rookie editor jumps at the chance. No one told
me it was a Johnson 'Mechworks offering. Ugh. Just kill me. Kill
me now.
*Ok, pull yourself together, you can do this*
The new MGD-6G Magda from JMInc. is...noteworthy. A mid-speed,
jump-capable 45-tonner, the Magda mounts a ...varied...mix of
weaponry, with...uh...impressive...Alpha Strike potential.
Reportedly designed as a "Hunter-Killer" in difficult terrain or an
urban environment, it should also be serviceable in a "Main-Line"
capacity.
*Ok...breathe...*

Capabilities:
It appears that JMInc. has claimed another rookie editor, as the
individual who wrote the overview has been remanded to 3-5 years of
hard therapy. Poor soul, never had a chance.
Now down to business. Johnson 'Mechworks Inc.'s new Magda
Battlemech is visually striking. Whether by design or a case of
"freecycling" both arms appear to have been hacked off at the elbow
by RAC-fire, and the remaining stumps are dominated by the 'Mech's
primary guns. The devastating ERPPC and attached capacitor are
crudely welded to the stump of the right arm, seemingly lashed in
place with metal straps, the wires for the power coupling fully
visible where they arch across to the torso. The capacitor itself
sits completely exposed near the shoulder, mounted externally to the
arm and protected only by a protruding "wing" which may be a
deliberate shaping, or may simply be a tortured chunk of structure
twisted into that shape by whattever catastrophe ripped the arm from
its original owner. the let arm looks like half of a Rifleman arm,
mounting a Light Autocannon with an Extended Range laser nearly
invisible stuffed into a mounting bracket designed for a Large
Laser.
Appearances aside, this "Scrapyard Special" puts out an
impressive display in the priving grounds arena. Backing up the
primary guns is a torso (and head) that bristles with motley
assortment of 4 lasers of varying types, providing a potent mix of
firepower, range, and accuracy. However, the 'Mech is clearly
designed to fight primarily at range, moving in close only for ambush
-- or execution. When a Magda pilot feels he has a "prime shot", the
'Mech's big surprise swings into view as a pair of massive Rocket
Launchers pivot from their "parking" positions on the Magda's back to
unleash hell on whatever unfortunate victim stands before it. After
firing, the launchers either pivot back into place or are simply
dropped of the mounts in order not to interfere with the swing of the
arm-mounted guns.
While the Magda appears to be a tricky machine to handle (judging
by the awkward design and unusual weapon mix, and also taking into
consideration the cramped confines of a Magda's compact cockpit) as
well as tending to run hot, the arena activity has shown the Magda to
be a highly versatile killer, time and again manoevering carefully
into position, annihilating its targert with Rocket fire, then
covering its withdrawal with its powerful ranged weaponry.

All in all, the Scrapyard Special looks like a winner.

My Blurb: Ever start designing a 'Mech and have the damn thing start visually coalescing in your head? By the time I was done the design, this one had become a real "character" design for me. It gave me a real "Junkyard Wars" kind of feel. Picture the Right Arm off a (Unseen) Shadow Hawk, blown off at the elbow. PPC literally held in place with metal straps welded on. Hide the capacitor behind the "wing" at the top of the arm. Take a salvaged Rifleman arm, hack of the Large Laser, stuff a Medium Laser into the mount, and swap in a Light AC. Rocket Launchers mounted on the back that swing around the 'Mech's sides to fire (where they intefere with the arms) and then simply drop to the ground when they're no longer useful. Looks like it's just come out of a nasty firefight even when it's fresh from the repair shop. "Scrapyard Special" indeed!

Yes, I've had a good visual in my head, but you have gone to the next level. You can look up the Henchman if you want, but it ain't near so colorful...no, not even close.

So, is this jenu-ine jimmi (genuine JMInc) a production model or a one-shot wonder sales model whipped up in the recycle-parts yard by the techs during their lunch break? Because, inspite of its bizaar, random appearence, it seems to be packed with stuff from the high-end warehouse and quite capable of smaking down anything in at its weight circa. 3025.

3025? You insult me, sir! This should be able to challenge many on the Heavies fron that era. On the modern battlefield, it ought to put the hurt on even a Clanner in an unfair fight (RLs were never designed for use in a fair fight!)

Right now it's just a prototype, although the designedrs love the "hobbled together" look so much they intend to duplicate it should the Magda go into full prodection, with only a few minor tweaks to correct the prototype's balance issues.

Fluff rocks! Good mech, and if I can get the chance to use it I will!

Don't you think that is playing dirty with newbies and would turn them off of playing BT?

If you want to get them hooked you need to let them win and not to wipe the battle field with them.
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.

I was a Major *pain* before
But I got a promotion.
I am now a General *pain*
Yay for promotions!!!

That would be why I'm waiting. *Evil Grin* Let them get confident because of my consistently crappy luck before I introduce my Ace in the Hole.
