If it is a game that everyone has been so devoted to for so long why do you want it to die. It isn't at its best, but that is when you stick it out and try to help it survive. So many people spent so much complaining and whining about their devotion to a game that is getting worse. Help it get better, don't hope for its demise.

That's without any advertising / marketing - and no mpogd.com voting related bonus payments ...
And of course it's summer now and many people tend to be busy doing outdoor sports and such instead of playing online (browser) games, or reading online gaming related forums ...
Simply wait for "this fall" (= fall 2012), encourage new player recruitment and try to "Welcome back!" some old players (e.g. via admin sending a "Welcome back!" e-mail to all existing accounts) - and while you are at it, why not offer a special deal for returning players (e.g. donate X amount of USD and get double DP for a limited time only) [= temporarily removes the need for DP pool managment and kind of bypasses the disgruntled DP pool manager "on strike" phenomenon]?
Just some food for thought ...

Obviously, those people that want nev to die keep logging in.
Now maybe, just maybe, the unique log ins would drop by over half if they stopped playing entirely. But no. That would mean giving up their main reason to live, or so it would seem.
Now it is possible that sm is waiting for all the 'bitter vets' to stop logging in before working on the game further. It is possible he has put it on the back burner until he learns more about coding. It is possible he is trying to get the game stable. It is possible he finally said enough. Only person that can honestly answer that is sm.
Now with a few new games on the market, some people are playing them and not bothering to log in for days or so, just to update factories or research.
For a few, since training is borked, there is issues with getting a decent attack force/rebuilding after losing, which is even worse then the old days. Leave an empire on auto pilot until its worth playing again seems to be one solution.

Complaining about putting nev out of its misery, and yet you still keep logging in. Remove it from your browser history and the favorites and never type neveron.com again. Easy, effective, and permanent.
Best I can figure, is that you are hoping nev gets to the point that sm wants to sell and badly, so you can buy it up. If you want the game that badly, start programming it yourself. Then you can be the one that is in charge. You can decide how fast money is made, and what it takes to skill down and everything else. Just leave the internet address here and see how many people come play and stay.
Hell, since everyone is such great programmers, there should be atleast 5 games out there ready to roll in less then 3 months. If not, leave the game and be done with it.

Technical advice for the future: Please use all caps, plus colored font, bold and a font size as large as possible, plus - of course - multiple exclamation marks ... 
a few reasons / explanations for apparantly temporarily decreased login activities:
- seasonal fluctuations (summer = increased outdoor activities)
- Olympic Games (London, 27 July - 12 August 2012)
plus a more Nev-specific reason / explanation (game mechanics, skill checks accumulation) related):

Well, looks like several people (e.g. rantamplan, slaine202) suggested / recommended to not log into an empire for an extended period of time to accumulate a large number of skill checks to be precocessed all at once later to help improve the chance of getting some uber skilled ultra elite soldiers.
Now what if people simply followed this suggestion / advice (Do not log in for some time to accumulate skill checks to help generate some super soldiers.) to see for themselves if this suggestion / advice works as advertised?
How about decreasing log in numbers as a temporary by-product of excessive uber soldier 'production' / 'creation'?
Just some food for thought ...

Doubt this willa ffect the number of loggins.
If people is smart enough theyll log into the main screen and maybe into other not training empires.
the loggin into the main screen is something they should do... ˇjust for checking if teh empire is being attacked!
otherwise they wont notice.
In my opinión considering the risks of a war in neveron, anyone who still cares about what happens to their empires is loggin at least once every day or every 2-3 days.
