Went off of two ideas here, actually one then saw the Clan Wolverine take on this in one of Jihad Sourcebooks, the first was to borrow the Cicada idea of a 20 ton heavier Mercury as they did with the Locust.

And the second variant is my take of the Clan Wolverine mech...

==Overview:==
The unveiling of the Mercury was heralded as the dawn of a new age in
BattleMech design. Billed as an obvious successor to the aging Stinger and
Wasp, the Mercury answered many dreams of scout lance pilots. Initial
specifications called for the light Mech to be faster and better armed than
any other in its class, all without a reduction in armor.
Displayed for the first time in 2742, the Mercury was an electronic
marvel, the showpiece of the Star League Defense Forces. At the unveiling,
Mitchell Vehicles spokesmen described multiple breakthrough systems only in
general terms, and none of the new Mechs was allowed outside the direct
control of the Regular Army. [EDITOR'S NOTE: Just before the Exodus, the new
Mercury 'Mechs remained with units stationed on Terra and at the factory on
Graham IV. These all left with General Kerensky. The highest concentration to
remain behind were with the Eighth Recon Battalion of the Third Regimental
Combat Team, known as the Eridani Light Horse, which became a renowned
mercenary unit. The Eighth lost all twelve of its Mercury 'Mechs during
fighting on Sendai in 2798.]

==Capabilities:==
The heart of the Mercury is the Myomer Accelerator Signal Circuitry
(MASC) system. Acting as a "turbocharger" for the myomer bundles in the legs,
the MASC system allows the Mercury to reach speeds of up to 172 kph in short
bursts. The special circuitry sends shorter but stronger signals to the myomer
bundles, effectively doubling the Mercury's walking speed. Long-term use can
damage the 'Mech's actuators, but timely use in critical situations can mean
the difference between life and death.
With its high speed and energy weapons, the Mercury is an ideal scout and
raider, capable of remaining in the field for as long as the pilot is able to
take the stresses of battle.
The few critics of the design point out the Mercury's lack of jump jets.
Despite this drawback, the Mercury is well accepted by the Star League
commanders. Though comparable in weight to the Stinger or Wasp, the Mercury
can survive longer in battle because of its heavier weapons and the stronger
Ferro-Fibrous armor.
The energy-dissipation system is a marvel of Star League technology.
Automated heat sinks monitor themselves and channel excess heat away from the
reactor and cockpit.
The Hessen IX Small Lasers in the head and the center torso are a matched
pair. The lasers are slipped into place, bolted down, and connected in three
places to the power circuits and cooling feeds. If the lasers are damaged or
destroyed, the bolts can be removed and the entire system replaced, usually in
minutes. [EDITOR'S NOTE: This modular replacement system was expected to
revolutionize the logistical support of field units, but the Exodus and First
Succession War put an end to any radical departure from standard military
procedure.]
Though both Martell Medium Lasers use the same type of barrel and
targeting feeds, they do differ greatly in their power systems. The right arm
laser diffuses the power all along the upper and lower arm, housing redundant
systems in both sections to provide backup capabilities should one part of the
arm be damaged. The torso mount, however, clusters the entire system into a
compact area. Any damage to the torso, other than a direct hit on the power
system, is likely to pass through, missing the laser entirely.

==Overview:==
After the formation of the Clans in the unknown regions of space beyond the
Periphery, Nicholas Kerensky's brave new society quickly realized that only
thought fierce competition and techological expansion could they forge a new
society far removed from the taint of the Spheroid corruption. According to
some never-before-seen records, Clan Wolverine (now know as the Not-Named
Clan) may have been on the cutting edge of an arms race that erupted in the
Clans' early years, basing all new 'Mech designs on the best models available
to the self-exiled Star League Defense Force.

The Mercury II was perhaps one of the very first Wolverine designs to see the
light of day. Boasting increased weight over its namesake, as well as added
mobility of jump jets, the Mercury II was far more thean a mere variant--it
was an extensive redesign that spared no expense, from its extra light fusion
reactor and ferro-fiberous armor to its double strength freezers and the
firepower of its powerful extended range laser. Fast, highly mobile, and
carrying superior armor protection for its size, the Mercury II was the ideal
scout, armed with an active prode to sniff out hidden threats, ECM to foil
enemy sensors and the firepower to be an effective hunter/killer in itself.
