Overview: Introduced a few years before the Amaris Coup, the Manubalista was produced on Terra. Rim Worlds Forces quickly adopted the design and made it their own.
Capabilities: The Manubalista was designed to complement designs such as the Bombardier, Archer and Catapult. The Artemis enhanced LRM's backed up by a pair of large lasers and an SRM6 for short range defense made for a versatile and effective battlemech.
Though moderately well armoured the Manubalista could stand off enemy mechs while the lasers and SRM were enough to make any attacker think twice about getting closer.
The Manubalista's bulky frame and sleek gun pods were designed to emphasize its lethal abilities.
Battle History: The Manubalista was available in small numbers to Kerensky's SLDF troops, having been available for only a few years, its adoption by the Rim Worlds army and the long trail of atrocities that followed its wake gave it an undeserved reputation as a weapon of mass destruction. Rumor that Manubalista was the name of a demon or an ancient evil warlord spread around the Inner Sphere.
In actual combat the Manbalista performed very well against most SLDF mechs, so well in fact that the Draconis Combine took inspiration of this design for their Archer 2K variant.
The mech's reputation did not deter Clan Smoke Jaguar to use the Manubalista's weapon configuration as one of the inspirations for their Mad Dog.
Deployment: Despite being an SLDF mech, the Manubalista is generally viewed as a Rim World's mech with the attached bad reputation. The mech was relatively rare among Comstar who were concerned about its reputation and kept it in reserve. The Word of Blake had no such qualms and used it widely.
Variants: The Word of Blake modified the Manubalista by removing the Artemis systems, adding CASE and replacing the Large Lasers with twin Light PPC's with capacitators and a pair of medium lasers.
