Overview:
The Gunrunner, the brainchild of a small company specialized in mech components
was for many years the subject of a bitter copyright court case started by GM,
the producer of the Marauder a mech, allegedly copied by the Gunrunner.


Capabilities:
The Gunrunner is a classic example of the walker-pod model, the ressemblance to
the classic GM Marauder did not go unnoticed and before the Gunrunner was put
on sale, GM took Escalante Inc to court for infringing their trademarked
design. It took years of legal wrangling and appeals in the various Inner
Sphere courts before the GM injunction was finally thrown out on the basis that
the Marauder's design was no longer protected by copyright laws and that the
Gunrunner was sufficiently different that this could not lead to a devaluation
of the Marauder's trusted brand name. Several cosmetic changes were made to
further distinguish it from the Marauder.

Making full use of a an XL engine to save weight on the 75-ton chassis, the
Gunrunner has average mobility for its class with a top speed of 64kph and
matching jump jets. Thirteen tons of armour provide ample protection for the
Gunrunner.

The armament is energy-based tied into a targeting computer for maximum
accuracy. The main gun pods mount a Heavy PPC and a pair of ER Large Lasers
respectively. A light PPC in an overhead mount is reminiscent of the
Marauder's original AC/5, whose range and damage profile it closely matches.

Though its 16 double strength heat sinks are pushed to the limit to control the
generated heat, this is not a major obstacle to an experienced pilot.


Battle History:
The Gunrunner is a potent mech with a solid combat profile. Once the legal
troubles passed, the design proved popular with Inner Sphere houses and
mercenaries alike. Ironically the mission profile of the Gunrunner did match
that of most Marauders and they were often paired as complimentary designs.


Deployment:
As the Republic courts were among the first to rule in favour of the Gunrunner,
the mech enjoyed brisk sales with Republic units. It is also found in good
numbers with Capellan units. Sales were low in the Free Worlds League, in part
due to the agressive marketing of the 5M model.


Variants:
The 4R version drops the targeting computer in favour of four extra heat sinks
and adds a pair of small pulse lasers for AP use.

A nice design. It's very similar to my Blitzkrieg. Both are based on the Marauder chassis and employ an all energy weapon armament. But while you went with a Targeting Computer for increased accuracy, the Blitzkrieg's approach is to maximize the volume of fire of it's four PPCs by using 20 DHS.
