Overview:
The Durango was introduced by Clan Diamond Shark during the Jihad and sold
mostly to Inner Sphere forces. It acquired a reputation for being a solid
no-frills mech with a preference for firepower and protection, speed coming
last.


Capabilities:
Based on a modified Thor chassis, the Durango lacks an XL engine, reducing its
speed to 63 KPH, which is considered slow for a 75-ton clan design. This was a
concsious decision by the Sharks as an XL-engine would raise the price and slow
production as well as make repairs more difficult as the mech was clearly aimed
at Inner Sphere buyers.


The armament is based on classic designs such as the Warhammer and the Mad Dog,
mixing direct fire energy weapons, in this case a ER PPC and ER Large Laser
with a pair of LRM15 launchers. For short ranges the Durango has paired ER
Medium Lasers and Pulse Lasers mounted in the torso. In an attempt to increase
its effectiveness, Diamond Shark techs spent a lot of effort on the torso
joint, giving it a very fast rotation speed and wide angle, as a result the
Durango can bring its weapons to bearn on almost any angle except to the rear
faster than almost any other mech, a feature that surprised many who though
they had the Durango blindsided.


13 tons of armour give the Durango ample protection for its intended role. The
lack of speed and jump jets leaves the Durango vulnerable in close quarters and
extended fighting. Durango pilots have learned to avoid getting cornered and
use their mechs as indirect fire support for other, more mobile units.


The Durango excels at long range combat, pounding away at enemy mechs with
heavy firepower. Inner Sphere observers categorize the Durango as a
conservative, simple design, yet extremely well-armed and resillient.


Battle History:
The Durango arrived in time to boost weakened combat units with a powerful new
mech. The Clan technology gives it a clear edge over Inner Sphere designs,
including Word of Blade Celestials.


Despite being a heavy mech, the Durango is often incorporated with assault
lances because of its firepower.


Deployment:
The Durango is to be found all around the Inner Sphere serving with house
militaries and mercenaries alike. Several Clans such as Wolf in Exile and Nova
Cat also field them in numbers, either won in trials of posession or simply
purchased on the open market.


Several were purchased by Wolf's Dragoons during the Jihad to replenish their
numbers and served with the Home Guard afterwards.


Variants:
The Durango does not have omni technology, but the design is easily modified.
Common variants include replacing the Pulse lasers and adding Artemis FCS to
the LRM's. Another variant adds an experimental capacitator to the ER PPC.
Other variants beef up the armour while another variant replaces the pulse
lasers with four jump jets.


One of the most radical versions drops the ER PPC and Laser for two extra LRM10
launchers and a C3 master.
