------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The ON-01 Ono (Ono masa-kari; japanese for "axe" or "hatchet") is a refurbished Hatchetman for the Draconis Combine, after aquiring a few dozen from battlefield salvage in the first decade of the Hatchman's introduction to the Inner Sphere. Though only a limited number of mechs were rebuilt, it was still only used by a limited numbers of Dispossessed or rookie Mechwarriors, as the Hatchet was still considered a crude weapon befitting for only savage barbarians. The Draconis Combine solved this stigmata by turning to the Luthien Armor Works, who completly stripped the mech of much of the former components and rebuild it with parts from the Draconis Combine.
==Capabilities:== Nearly everything was stripped from the Hatchetman; save for the Hatchet, Chassis, fusion engine, and jumpjets. As many of the Hatchetman came in missing the entire head from the Full-Head Ejection System, it was replaced with a modified head from the Phoenix Hawk. The entire eletronics package was changed, the communication system was replaced with the Sipher CommSys 3 used in the Dragon 1N as well as the targeting system with the Cat's Eyes 5 from the Panther. The armor was increased to 9.5 tons of Star Slab, same as the Jenner, over the 6.5 tons of Durallex Medium formerly used.
The Ono carries a different weapons mix then the Hatchetman. The first thing to go was the Defiance Killer Autocannon/10 in favor for Sunglow Large Laser with the focusing lens in the housing of the old barrel in the right torso, this allowed the addition of a Beta-6 SRM launcher with one ton of ammo to the left torso. The origional medium lasers in either arm were kept, though the Defiance B3M were replaced with Argra 3L Medium Lasers for logistical reasons. To keep the keep the mech running cool from the energy weapons, the heatsinks were increased to twelve.
==Variants:== As the Ono is a variation of the Hatchetman, Defiance Industries has tried to take Luthien Armor Works to trial over copy right infringement. Because its actually a refit and refurbished mech for the DCM without the intent to sell for profit, the trial has languished in the courts of several Great Houses for nearly 2 years.

My take on the Hatchetman prototype being built by the DC from the 3025 era to just before 3039 when you start to see/hear the Tech 2 stuff (which doesn't fully become used until 3050), cause it seems silly that the creators can say "DC doesn't like the Hatchet" when in fact a dispossessed pilot shouldn't complain about whats available and a hatchet is more effective smacking a metal wall aka Battlemech to crush armor than what amounts to a metal girder (aka Sword melee weapon).

Like this one, good fluff and good design and nice way to make things work from the given fluff and other bits of the story lines.
