------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
With the discovery of the Helm Memory Core in 3029, every House in the Inners
Sphere frantically began research new technology to upgrade their aging mech
forces. In 3033, the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces requested Coventry Metal
Works and Defiance Industries in a joint venture to develop a new heavy mech
by 3035, the Fusilier, to replace more venerable mechs such as the
Thunderbolt, Crusader, Rifleman, and Warhammer that can not be upgraded with
newer technology due to past damage. To keep costs down, both mech producers
primary use technology and equipment manufactured by either producer, rarely
outsourcing from other manufactuers in the Commonwealth. One interesting
feature of the Fusilier is that Coventry Metal Works and Defiance Industries
both manufacture the same chassis, apart from different model numbers.

==Capabilities:==
Forgoing the new xtra-light engines still in the developmental stage, the
FUS-1A uses a 280 VOX standard fusion engine, capable of a standard cruising
speed of 43.2 km/h and maximum speed of 64.8 km/h. A series of 12 double
heatsinks allow the Fusilier to run quite cool, even during intense battles
and performing jump maneuvers of 120 meters. Twelve and a half tons of
Lexington Limited armor (for the Coventry model) or Glasgow Limited (Defiance
Model) provide ample production, along with CASE equipment to protect against
ammunition explosions.

As a general workhorse and front-line fires upport mech, the Fusilier mounts
primary mid to long range weaponry. For long range combat, a Coventry
Starlight LRM-10 is mounted in the left torso along with two tons of ammo.
Backing up the LRM is a pair of Defiance B3L Large Lasers, mounted in the
right arm and right torso. For defense, the Fusilier mounts one Defiance B3M
Medium Laser in the right arm slung under the large laser (in a configuration
similar to Marauder's arm) and another in the center torso. A Sure Fire 444
Anti-Missile System located in the center torso provide defense against
missiles. Designers decided to install a set of Coventry Light Autogun Machine
Guns in the left arm and right torso as a deterrent against infantry swarm
attacks

==Variants:==
There are no variants of the Fusilier FUS-1A. With the introduction of endo
steel, production of FUS-1A's ceased infavor of the -2A. The few dozen 1As'
produced were relocated for training duties to mech academies.

With the rediscovery and introduction of endosteel, Coventry Metal Works and
Defiance Industries ceased production of the FUS-1A. With and endosteel
skeleton, the -2A frees up a significant amount of tonnage to install another
heavy weapon system. To field a heavier punch and better combat the now more
powerful mechs of the other Houses, a third Defiance B3L Large laser is
mounted in the right torso. An Artemis IV FCS is installed along with the
LRM-10 to increase accuracy at the expense of one ton of ammunition. The
machine guns are removed to make room for the additional tonnage of the large
laser.

==Variants:==
Despite the introduction of the -3A in 3040, production of the -2A continues
simply due the its effectiveness in the field.

Hmm, seems I forgot to hit summit for the -3A. First some fluff I forgot to add at the beginning.

. "...The Fusilier is the a prime example of, in a mere two decades, how quickly the Houses have been able to rediscover and redevelop technologies that had not been seen since the era of the Star League, and we had kept hidden from them for centuries." - excerpt from a Comstar report.

along with CASE equipment to protect against ammunition explosions.

Seventy percent of the production lines for the FUSI-2A are retooled to
produce the -3A, with simple field refits made available to upgrade exisiting
-2As.

The FUSI-3A makes uses of new laser technology to upgrade its arsenal. The
standard Defiance B3M medium lasers are upgraded to Defiance P5M Medium Pulse
lasers, sacrificing one-third the range of a standard laser for increased
damage and accuarcy. The arm mounted Defiance B3L Large Laser is upgrade to a
Cyclops XII Extended Large Laser, outsourced to and manufactured by Cyclops
Incorporated. The two torso mounted large lasers are replaced with a standard
Donal Particle Projection Cannon to bring the Fusilier's long range weapons
within similar engagement envelops. An additional double heatsink, bringing
the total up to 13, is installed into the right arm to help manage the heat
created by the new laser systems. Finally, the anti-missile system is moved
from the center torso to above and slightly behind the head; due to
mechwarriors complaints of the cockpit view occasionally being obscured by
the AMS as it attempts to engage a flight of imbound missiles.

==Variants:==
Rumors from Defiance Industries' technicians suggest the -3A is only a
temporary production and modification, due impart to the slow development of
research in the field of Particle Projection Cannons.

With the discovery of the Helm Memory Core in 3029, every House in the Inner

Works and Defiance Industries in a joint venture to develop a new heavy mech

primary use technology and equipment manufactured by either producer, rarely
outsourceing from other manufacturers in the Commonwealth. One interesting
feature of the Fusilier is that Coventry Metal Works and Defiance Industries
both manufacture the same chassis, apart from different model numbers.

==Capabilities:==
Forgoing the xtra-light engines now available, , the Fusilier uses a 280 VOX
standard fusion engine, capable of a standard crusing speed of 43.2 km/h and
maximum speed of 64.8 km/h. A series of 12 double heatsinks allow the Fusilier
to run quite cool, even during intense battles and performing jump manuvers of
120 meters. Twelve and a half tons of Lexinton Limited armor (for the Coventry
model) or Glasgow Limited (Defiance Model) provide ample production, along
with CASE equipment to protect against ammunition explosions.

When Defiance Industries engineers were able to perfect new technologies in
the field of the Particle Projection Cannon research, it was quickly applied
to the Fusilier. Replacing the standard Donal PPC with a Defiance 1001
Extended Ranged PPC, the Fusilier is now able attack out to 690 meters, slowly
softening a target with LRMs until the ER large laser can come into play. The
new weapon has increased the heat build up potentional, but not to such
critical levels the Fusilier's double heatsinks can't handle, unless the pilot
gets reckless.

==Variants:==
The FUSI-4A is now the standard model of the Lyran Commonwealths Fusilier
mech. All -3As mechs in the field and production linesare upgraded with the
new weapon. Production of -2As decreases to only a dozen units a year, unless
by request.

While the -4A is the standard production model available, both companies have
started production of a variation which favor their individual weapon
manufacture specialty.

Coventry Metal Works produces the -4B model. A second Cyclops XII ER large
laser replaces the ER PPC. The Coventry Starlight LRM-10 is upgraded to a
Coventry Starfire LRM-15.

The -4C is produced by Defiance Industries. The Defiance P5M Medium Pulse
Lasers are removed and replaced by a single Defiance B3M in the center torso.
The arm mounted lasers are removed and replaced with a second Defiance 1001 ER
PPC. One additional heatsink is added, brining the total to 14, to control the
new heat levels.

Also available to more wealthy clientele are the -5 series, which replaces the
standard 280 Vox fusion engine on all -4 models with a Magna 350 XL engine,
increasing the Fusilier's top speed to 86.4 km/h. There are even reports of -5
series models dubbed "EM", which supposedly use advanced battlemech myomer to
increase the mechs top speed and strength capiability when it researches a
certain heat threshold.

Author's Note: I intended to post this an idea of the time line of mech development since the rediscovery of Star League technologies up til and just before the Clan Invasion, probably pushing back/earlier and reordering some discoveries into the 3030s(seems most weapons were developed in the 3040s). If the Houses had just barely started being able to field and produce new technologies in the '40s, how were the Clans able to not just roll on forward to Terra except of course for Clan Honor and the intervention of Comstar?
