==Overview:==
The HBK-4G Hunchback is a heavy-hitting fighting vehicle. Serving in
medium and assault lances of many regiments of the Successor States, it has
earned a distinguished fighting record. Designed in early 2572, the Hunchback
continues as a popular vehicle both in House Liao and House Kurita regiments.
It is also used extensively by House Marik armed forces.

The Hunchback is widely known for its streetfighting abilities in the
confined spaces of urban battles. With its massive firepower at close range
and its two heavy battle fists, it is more than a match for many heavier
'Mechs.

==Capabilities:==
The Hunchback, known for its devastating firepower at close range, has a
problem with heat buildup. The recovery of Star League technology made this
an easy problem to solve. With barely a pause in production, Kali Yama
Weapons Industries Inc. at Kalidasa started producing Hunchbacks with double
heat sinks. The Free Worlds League, seeing the value of the new design,
increased its orders to 20 per year.

Besides using double heat sinks, the new HBK-5M uses the new Sunglow
Prism-Optic Small Pulse Laser instead of the Diverse Optics Type 10 Small
Laser. It also envelops the autocannon shells in Cellular Ammunition Storage
Equipment to guard against an internal explosion. Unfortunately, these two
changes reduce the amount of autocannon ammunition the Hunchback can carry.
If this proves to be a problem, Kali Yama could easily keep the double heat
sinks but return to the previous weapon-and-ammunition configuration.

Marik units that have received the new Hunchback have given it rave
reviews. The first MechWarrior who runs out of autocannon ammunition in the
middle of battle might be doing a different kind of raving, however.

Within six months of the production for House Marik of the -5M, Kali Yama
Weapons Industries Inc. came under fire after a scathing report after the
neutering of the Hunchback's primary weapon. With only five shots for the
autocannon that only lasted a minute at best, the mech was left with only a
few lasers and its battlefists along with enough double heat sinks that the
mech could never overheat. In the new age of combat in the early 3050's, this
put the Hunchback at a severe disadvantage when facing more technology
superior Inner Sphere or Clan OmniMechs.

Kali Yama responded by issuing and shipping a new refit package that was
easy to replace, after talking with their Techs and engineers from the factory
floor for the quickest work around. After only three days of conference, Kali
Yama sent an emissary to Irian Technologies, to request and import several
products (increasing sales for both companies in the process) that boosted the
performance of the Hunchback-5M with as little as only two weeks of downtime.

The first thing to go was the removal of all the exterior armor to ease
the access to the interior, followed by the removal of three heatsinks; they
were unnecessary as the mech could only produce 60% of the necessary heat to
even reach critical levels unless a Firestarter was facing the Hunchback.
This excess weight was put to good use, by increasing the ammo count from five
shots for the Kali Yama Big Bore autocannon to fifteen, a 50% increase over
the previous Fourth Succession War era version of the Hunchback.

With the biggest flaw solved, the next addition was the removal of the
old standard medium class lasers with the replacement of the Magna 400P Medium
Pulse Lasers imported fromm Irian Technologies, the same used for the
Awesome-9M and compliments the Diverse Optics Type 10 Small Pulse laser Kali
Yama had started the first version of the Hunchback-5M. Finally, the Durallex
Tensile-4 armor was replaced at the end of the refit with Jolassa-328 Ferro
Fibrous w. CASE that allowed the upgrade of an additional ton of ammo
(combined with the three tons freed from the heatsinks) before Kali Yama
started the upgrade of the -5M in the first place. Kali Yama has seen fit to
upgrade their production lines for the -5M mk2 version, which only took a
little longer downtime their their botched -5M mk1 version.
