==Overview:==
The Nekomata (Japanese, "Forked Cat") recieved its name from some obscure
intelligence officer of the Draconis Combine aboard the Kyushu class warship
assigned to Task Force Serpent. A (relatively) new heavy Omni-Mech nearing the
final steps of testing to replace the losses Smoke Jaguar suffered during its
invasion of the Inner Sphere and the constant battling with the other Clans in
Trials or Draconis Combine raids above the truce line, Khan Osis ordered the
construction of a new heavy mech using current available resources. Clan
techs responded by spliting parts from other popular second generation mechs
(hence the name, split like a fork and operated by pilots of a Cat clan) and
melding them together.

The Nekomata is constructed primarily from the same molds as that of
three Clan Omni-Mechs; the Mad Dog's legs, the Summoner's torso, and the arms
of the Hellbringer. When first encountered, the targeting computers of Task
Force Serpent mechwarriors could not properly identify the odd shape of a mech
with its reverse jointed legs and unusual torso more commonly seen on standard
bipedal mechs; it was only after reviewing the battle recordings and careful
analysis of the weapons being fired how similar the Nekomata was to standard
clan heavy mechs.

==Capabilities:==
The Nekomata is a fast calvary heavy mech built around an extra light engine,
capable exceeding 80kph to keep up with all front line clan heavy mechs and
able to leap up to 150 meters like the Summoner. Using an endo-steel chassis
and covered in 10.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor for maximum protection (nearly
20% more than the Mad Dog, Hellbringer or Summoner), enough weight is saved to
give the mech 24 tons of pod space.

The Primary variant of the Nekomata is similar to the Vulture, pair of LRM-15
in the torso integrated with Artemis IV and two tons of ammo backed by an ER
Large Laser and ER Medium laser in each arm, , one additional heat sink is
installed giving it a total of 13. A downgrade in fire power, but the
increased accuracy of the missiles with extra ammo and greater range of its
lasers (though less accurate) make the Mad Dog-Prime a powerful long range
support mech.

The Alternate-A configuration is comparable to the Hellbringer sporting an ER
PPC in each arm backed by a trio of ER Medium Lasers in the left torso, linked
to a targeting computer. Backing up the energy weapons is a single Streak-6
with a ton of ammo and the clan ECM / Active Probe in the right torso.
Lacking the anti-infantry machine guns and A-pods, the Hellbringer variant is
a capable scout or vanguard / picket mech while being less suited to urban
brawls but excels in open or forested terrain it is capable of running away
from infantry ambushes

The Alt-B configuration is an exact clone of the Summoner, sporting an LB-10x
with two tons of ammo in the left arm and an ER PPC in the right arm supported
with the LRM/15 in the left torso with two tons of ammo, like the Summoner it
will not over heat as easily though it lacks several less heatsinks and is
still capable of doing so (caution is advised, something Smoke Jaguars tend to
lack). A single ER Small Laser rounds out the arsenal unlike the original
mech, giving the pilot a weapon to fall back on when its over heating and out
of ammo while the ER PPC is cooling down. The Thor variant doesn't specialize
like the other variations, instead it is the standard trooper mech perfect to
fit a first strike mission.

==Battle History:==
The only battles the Nekomata fought was during the assault on Huntress. A
total of 15 mechs composed of the test trinary where built and piloted by
green mechwarriors fresh out of the sibko training. They fought admirably,
but ultimately the Smoke Jaguar was defeated and after the Inner Sphere
analyzed the wreckage and captured construction plans, it was deemed a failed
but effective project by Inner Sphere techs. As the clans already possed
thousands of the same three mech chassis the Nekomata was based on and was
basicly a franken mech (something the IS had been doing for 265 years of
constant warfare and scavenging the battlefield since the Star League Defense
Force left), ultimately the only goal would of been to simplify and increase
production of one capable machine instead of three.

blurb: Something that hit me, why make so many mechs for each weight class? For a board game purpose and as a company, it makes sense to fluff it out as much as you can. For a real life perspective, the fewer vehicles you got for your military (any branch) that share parts the easier it is to produce and maintain. Issue a dozen random assault rifles to your infantry (not different types of gun such as carbine vs assault, basicly the same type built by different companies in the same caliber, but if one firing pin breaks you cannot use a part off an AK-47 to repair an M16)

“I ran out of room to stencil all the Mechs I’ve killed, so now I just go by regiment’s wiped out.”

Real life and this game don't mix well...the omni tech idea was as close as they got to being real life...

This mech is indeed interesting and good use of SJ economics, again another area that they went to lunch on and never came back.

Could you post the HMP file for it?

Art is not really a consideration when making a variant or new 'Mech. You address the construction rules first, and then worry about what the result looks like later.
