==Overview:==
In 3058 the heads of several different sections of the Repubic Naval
Industries came together for a meeting to begin work on what was to be the
newest and best armed warship the company had ever made.

Having a target date of May of 3065, the company soon ran into a few snags.
Money became an issue and so the ship (what was built of it at the time) was
put into mothball until they could return to it. In 3070, after hearing of a
very intersting contract being offered by the DC Naval commad, the company
rushed forth with their plans to finish the Vengeance and show the entire
Inner Sphere what it could do.

==Capabilities:==
Mounting massive fire power the Vengeance Class Dreadnaught is able to dish
out punishiment and take it as well.

It can stand give both front and boardside attacks with ease and deadly
pin-point presscision do to advanced targeting computers and well trained
gunners. The same level of firepower can be employed to give ground troops,
naval support fire or used to soften up enemy areas prior to landing troops.

The Vengeance Class has docking collars for 10 dropships, this alone adds an
addtional level of firepower and protection to the ship. Add in the 54 heavy
fighters she can carry as well as the 18 small craft, which we suggest to be
assault landers or gunship style small craft, the Vengeance can protect itself
from just about any attack.

Numoerous medium range weapons allow the ship to close in with a crippled foe
or get in and keep smaller ships at bay. Several computer tests have shown
that the level of weaponary empolyed on this ship allows for great flexibility
and surpries in any engagment.

Well, actually, I suggested canonical ships to face off against the Firepower, but some commentary on these designs:

The Overlord-class carrier (didn't you once object to me re-using canonical names for custom designs? ) has too many fighters to use effectively. 3000 fighters with 8 doors means you need about 3 hours (around 180 turns) to launch all the fighters and twice as long for them to dock. It also lacks enough cargo space to refuel the fighters once, let alone re-arm them, and the 5600 tons of cargo couldn't feed the bay personnel for long (about 9 days, if I'm remembering consumable usage rates correctly. It might be 18 days.)

The Overlord's weapons array is odd. The mixed ER PPCs and ER LLs achieves nothing, since they have the same range. The small lasers are next to useless for point defense. They can degrade a missile volley or two, but they lack the ability to engage multiple volleys per turn and defend neighboring ships like a real AMS.

The 800-meter gravdeck is larger than is allowed on a WarShip, while the mixing of gravdeck sizes makes no sense. If you want multiple gravdecks, then make them the same size so they cancel each other's gyroscopic precessions under station keeping thrust.

The armor is great and the acceleration adequate.

The first battleship has great armor and adequate acceleration, but the weapons are only so-so. The capital firepower is on par with the McKenna, only about half that of the Firepower and less than you could get on a 2.5-megaton platform. There are some oddities, too: the NAC/35s are wasteful, since they're no good for orbital bombardment unlike NAC/30s, and the NL/35s should be replaced with more NPPCs (which deliver the same damage and heat per ton, but have more range). Except for the pulse large lasers, the standard weapons are a poor anti-fighter mix with low total firepower. The small pulse lasers are, like the small lasers of the Overlord, poor PD weapons.

The Vengeance is interesting for its 4/6 acceleration and the armor is great, but after that goes wonky.

The NL55s are redundant with the NPPCs, but demand more fire control tonnage. The naval Gauss rifles are the lowest damage-to-weight capital weapons in the game besides the useless mass drivers. The NAC/30s are a great weapon, having about the highest damage-to-weight ratio of any capital weapon while retaining the "long" range band critical for orbital bombardment. The screen launchers are a nice touch that should be used more widely, including on the Firepower. If you wanted to optimize the Vengeance's capital firepower, you'd switch to all NAC/30s. If you didn't mind the reduction in efficiency, then you'd try a mix of NAC/10s and NAC/20s so you could benefit from the bracket fire rules.

Knowing that you're facing the Firepower, the AR/10s are useless even when lobbing nuclear-tipped capital missiles. Otherwise, they're a nice utility weapon because they have so many unique engagement options denied to other capital weapons. I tend to like a dozen or so on my bigger non-missile ships.

The standard weapons are an inexplicable mix. Other than the AMSs, there's a lot of unnecessary duplication of effects from multiple weapons. All the many features that separate (for example) a Streak 6 from a Gauss rifle on the ground don't exist in aerospace combat, which boils things down to range and damage-per-ton. If you want an anti-fighter weapon, pick one and stick to it. I recommend pulse large lasers, Inner Sphere or Clan, since that -2 bonus carries over into aerospace combat.

I picked ships that allowed be to use the LAMs ideal of the Firepower to my advantage, noting the limited number of Missile weapons.

I agree things could be better, but I wasn't going for total munchkin effects, well the Overlord is well munchy, and yes I think we did have a convo about reusing names and we all agreed that it will happen from time to time. I am not trying to build super ships, I was going for average which seems to be a better option versus one with 96 LAMS, really what was the point of that again? And no I don't agree with you about the ability of the Firepower to stop nukes, since the smart player would wait and use them once the Firepower has taken damage, lost some of the LAMS and then use them.

The mix of weapons was to cover things from ranged main weapons to close in one that could engage fighters and etc...I don't think the rules have changed to having a NL take out a ASF have they?

As for the fighters, they are there, used right they could be the tide turn or not, but see I do realize the Overlord would never get built, it like ALL of ATNs ships show issue with the rules. The rules allow these things to get built, because there is no limit on the number of fighters a ship can carry, just how many bay doors a ship can have, and the rules don't address the issue of the pilots or where the nations would get them from etc...again I will stand by my point in the Firepower thread, IF ATNs' ships which all seem to have the same number of LAMS where to become standard, then one side or both would find away to put armor on their missiles or come up with some thing else that would render the LAMs a waste of tonnage. Thus creating a larger arms race.

I can adjust the ships weapons since part of posting things is to share and get new ideas and takes on things.

Come on now... I think even a coma patient would call BS on that one. What "average" Warship in the Battletech Universe has a characteristic of 2,500,000 tons, carries 3000 fighters or close to 1400 points of armor in the nose among other things? I suspect the general lack of AMS, substandard maintenance levels, etc on your Warships was more of an oversight than a deliberate attempt on your part to make the ships "average." Given the maintenance levels on your ships, you'll be riding into battle with critical hits

No I picked ONE munchy ship to show you how silly your stuff is, and the others are average, the Overlord was munch from the day I worked on it back in 99. It is pure 100% munch, just like your Firepower, Hive and others.
