------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Arbalest Artillery Hovertank is a attempt to bring about a highly mobile
support unit able to quickly respond to changing battlefield conditions.
Originally, the test models lacked a turret and this was found to make the
Arbalest vulnerable as the unit had stop and pivot on a cushion of air during
bombardment. With the turret modification, the Arbalest is able to move and
shoot with precision accuracy at speeds of up to 80 km/h.

==Capabilities:==
While other artillery units typically have bearlly enough speed to to keep up
with most battlefield units, the Arbalest's 125 I.C.E engine is capable of
pushing the vehicle to over 129 km/h over most terrain.

The one and only weapon is an Arrow IV system, mounted on a 360 degree turret.
Speed coupled with the ability quickly maneuver in any direction and fire up to
6 rounds a minute makes the Arbalest extremely hard to counter-battery.

The Arbalest's only weakness is it's meager 4.5 tons of standard armor. Should
a unit come under fire, the crew is trained to hightail it out of the area at
max speed.

==Variants:==
Several variants are know to exists. Some simply upgrade the armor to
ferro-aluminium, will another variant replaces half a ton of ferro-aluminium
armor and 1 ton of Arrow IV ammo for a front mounted machine gun or
anti-missile system. Com-Star has been shown to purchase the basic unit, minus
the I.C.E. engine. Speculation is that Com-Star fields this model with a
fusion or extra-light engine, pushing the speed even higher.

==Deployment==
Arablests are typically deployed in lances or companies, 3 units with 1
supply unit to provide additional ammo.

Simple and to the point nicely done.

I would ditch the turret and add a machine gun, more armor, or something. There really is no point to have artillery in a turret on a hover craft. The hover craft is maneuverable enough with out adding the weight of a turret.
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.

Try spending 3 MP to turn around, then more MPs to move around a rubble or forest hex. You are sacrificing MPs just to turn and aim. Eventually, a light mech will catch up with it and manage to hit it (and it's not like another 1.5 tons of armor will help). The turret allows the hovercraft to point in one direction while aiming in another. If the hovercraft is under attack and happens to be pointed in the right direction, all head flank speed for 12 hexes (sans MP need for terrain modifications). And as a plus, if the turret happens to be facing the right direction, it can still lob an on board artillery shot or tag missile.

The Arbalest Artillery Hovertank is a target it has no LOS weapons. Its only defense is to run away at top speed at any sight of the enemy. You are trying to put a piece of artillery where they don't belong.

To tell the truth I am not all that sure artillery really have a place in BT. Artillery are affective at hitting large units of troops or fixed emplacements. Both of which are not that common in BT. BT uses small highly maneuverable units.

Exactly! Did I say, "Should a unit come under fire, the crew is trained to hightail it out of the area at max speed.". An artillery piece is not a unit needing secondary weapons, save a MG for anti-infantry defense. One of the variants I mentioned adds a MG.

And finally, I create units to have weaknesses and flaws. It makes the game more dynamic.

Depends on use. There is also Arrow IV tag missiles and specialty ammo, aside from standard arty ammo.

In truth, I tend to think of arty in BT as bringing more of a tactical and strategic element to the game, i.e. you try to box or maneuver your opponent into certain position by the time the first round hits or you use the artillery rounds to deny your opponent a certain area of the map board.
