Overview: The near complete destruction of Randam Mechwerks during the Jihad and the dip in mech sales in the Republic era, left the company in dire straits. Having lost crucial personnel Randam focussed on rebuildng its assets and resume production and get the company going again. It took many years before the BOD was ready to finance the development of a new prototype the Piquet, a versatile mech aimed at the mercenary and Periphery markets.
The turmoil that resulted from the failure of the HPG network proved to be a blessing for the ailing company. As mechs were back in demand, the Piquet was priced to match even the more modest budgets.
Capabilities: The Piquet is an unusually classic design for Randam, falling back on proven technology. Observers noted that it lacked the "Randam touch" though most agreed that it was a solid design and quite suited to its intended job.
Using an endo steel frame and conventional engine the Piquet offers unremarkable speed and only a slightly larger than average payload. The mix is very conventional, twinned lasers of various types dispense the Piquet of ammo reliance, while a pair of LRM5 launchers allow it to provide some measure of long range support and make use of specalized ammo types.
The Piquet is lavishly provided with double strength heat sinks allowing the Piquet to efficiently use its energy weaponry.
Equipped with 13 tons of armour plate, the Piquet is considerably well protected for its size and can wade into combat without fear of being easily overwhelmed.
Battle History: The Piquet's polyvalent chassis proved popular with many military forces across the Inner Sphere as fighting broke out.
Although it lacked the latest advanced technology, the Piquet proved to be a reliable and solid design and a good trooper mech.
Variants: Randam did not project to make any variants, though a number of field variants did appear they often involved some minor weapon changes. One more interesting variant replaced the twin medium pulse lasers with four flamers. This version became popular in built-up areas as potent anti-infantry mechs.

I would swop out the large lasers for extended range large lasers. Its to slow to catch quite a few mechs and vehicles and needs the range of XRLLs to engage them.
I am not a fan of IS pulse lasers for their lack of range but they are good for anti infantry work and in the dark era mechs come against lots of non mech forces. So though I dislike them its a good addition.
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.
I was a Major *pain* before
But I got a promotion.
I am now a General *pain*
Yay for promotions!!!

The X-Pulse lasers do come close to fixing the IS issues with pulse weapons.
