Was gonna put this under the slammer stuff, but it is getting off track with this subject, so started a new thread.

With your merc company players, you may wanna offer them less money per contract or only offer them contracts to start hitting opponents that can fight back. Also, most employers want part (almost all) salvage taken from a mission weither part of the original contract or not.
Alot of contracts also contain a code of ethics depending on employer. Most would not allow sacking of civilians for a meer smash and grab raid.
As well as people get upset with losing alot and tend to put bounties on heads, which is great for mechwarrior settings as you can play out the assassination attempts. Or sabotague/steal mechs. Not nice, but a possible way to take care of things. This could also result from the unit killing every last soldier, even those that flee or try to surrender. Word does get around.

Not all close to periphery worlds are under defended. The world Galax in the Federated Suns area is a good example of that. It is supposed to be the largest jumpship and dropship system in the suns. They employ alot of aerospace forces to protect it, as well as elite infantry. People dont realize how bad things get out of hand until its hard to fix it. Had issues like this with other games, especially dungeons and dragons.

If you kill every last soldier, who is left to get the word around that you are a ruthless killer?

First someone will be missed at some point that can report what happened.

Second someone will come across the bodies and its not all that hard to tell who was killed in battle and who was killed when running away or was executed.
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.

I was a Major *pain* before
But I got a promotion.
I am now a General *pain*
Yay for promotions!!!
