Overview: Originally conceived as a electronic warfare and command mech, the Stuart had a very brief career in the SLDF and is still highly sought after even today.
Capabilities: Originally the Stuart had a 320-rated engine, but demands for a heavier armament and lack of space forced its makers to downrate the engine to 240.
The Stuart, named after American Civil War commander Jeb Stuart, mounted the latest in Star League electronic warfare suites including a NARC beacon, TAG, ECM and Active Probe. The large head assembly allows the mech to be retrofitted with a dual cockpit without having to further modify it.
The original armament of 4 medium lases, SRM6 and LRM10 was considered inadequate for an 80-ton machine, using a lighter engine the manufacturer was able to fit an LB-10X autocannon, giving it credible firepower.
Defensive measures are among the best the SLDF could offer, heavy armour, ECM, CASE and an anti-missile system make the Stuart hard to hit and kill.
Battle History: The Stuart was assigned to many front-line SLDF regiments to give them an advanced Electronic Warfare mech. During the Periphery uprising and the Amaris Civil War the Stuart was often singled out by enemy forces as a critical support element and attrition rates were high. About half those still in service followed Kerensky into exile, while the remainder offered their capabilities to the Great Houses eager to add such advanced mechs to their armies.
The Stuart did not fit with Clan philosophy and most were reduced to second line service and are now exceedingly rare among the Clans as little is done to maintain them once they are damaged.
Those in the Inner Sphere suffered greatly and their advanced technology was mostly lost, to be replaced by readily available substitutes.
Variants: The Succession Wars variant drops all of the electronics, replaces the NARC with a second SRM 6, upgrades the LRM10 to an LRM15 and switches the LB-X cannon for a regular AC/10.
Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors: "Kerensky's Shadow"
Captain Taggart McPherson was one of Kerensky's staff officers and commander of his escort lance which included a Cyclops and an Atlas. Although not officially his bodyguard, McPherson never strayed out of ECM range and would often have Kerensky ride in the dual cockpit if he was unable to pilot his own mech. Oddly enough when Kerensky left, McPherson declined to follow him and offered his services to the Draconis Combine. His new career was very brief, during his transfer, his shuttle suffered accidental decompression, killing him instantly. His mech served for years with the 1st Sword of Light and is now in the DCMS museum on Luthien. The rare mech became the centerpiece of a special exhibtion that toured the Clan worlds in the 3100's in an attempt to further the entente between the Inner Sphere and the Clans.

Seems like a good design. Personal preference would include jump jets, especially on ones as slow as this one. A little too much ammunition, even with CASE. YMMV.

Looks like a heavy scout. Not bad, but seems a bit too overspecialized for an assault mech (much better then the original Charger). Not really knocking it, but I'd do something a bit lighter, around 65 tons, for a bit more speed. Keep the EW set up, but lighten up the weapon load and call it a scout with a heavier weapon load.
