Alongside the Talos TLS-1E I put together the Toro II, part of my design brief ran with an attempt to standardize parts and weaponry.
Mass: 40 tons Tech Base: Inner Sphere Chassis Config: Biped Rules Level: Tournament Legal Era: Succession Wars Tech Rating/Era Availability: D/X-E-D Production Year: 2830 Cost: 2,729,347 C-Bills Battle Value: 995
Chassis: Taurian Warworks Class 40 Power Plant: Nissan 200 Walking Speed: 54.0 km/h Maximum Speed: 86.4 km/h Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor: Hoyte Starplate III Armament: 1 Taurian Warworks PPC 2 Delta Dart LRM-5s Manufacturer: Vandenberg Mechanized Industries Primary Factory: Pinard New Vandenberg Communications System: Kensu-Mocom Angelia-II Targeting and Tracking System: Rushpoint TT2B5
Overview: New Vandenberg was, in the early 29th century, the core of Taurian construction and renewal in the wake of the Star Leaues collapse. Part of this was the reinvigorating of Taurian military identity with the reintroduction and refinement of ancient Taurian combat machines. The Talos and Toro II were the end brainchild of this project, both coming into production in the same year, both carefully designed to be able to share many parts and sub sytems, and both symbolic of a free and capable Concordat, a harkening to older better days played alongside hopes to see those days again.
Capabilities: Though outwardly the Toro II very deliberately resembles its ancestor, (the design team taking exacting detail from Black Bessie) there have been many internal changes, most notably increasing total mass by five tons, this was done to allow for a formal standardization of the Nissan 200 fusion engine for both the Toro and Talos, cutting into the logistical strain of fielding both chassis. Not only that, the Taurian Warworks PPC, Delta Dart LRM 5 Racks and even basic armour type and electronics suites mirror the Talos, making stockpiling parts for the pair a quartermasters dream. In addition to the new engine, the mech mounts an additional two tons of Hoyte Starplate, giving the machine an impressive eight and a half tons (99.27% of the theorized maximum coverage) of armour protection. A near afterthought to this was to mount a single additional heatsink, allowing the machine to fire its PPC on the move without generating excess heat.
Battle History: The Toro II over the centuries has, in the Periphery at least, developed a reputation as a first class counter-skirmisher, often a lance of Toros ride ahead of another pair of Talos lances, sweeping aside enemy skirmishers to pin enemy units down with substantial PPC and LRM fire, allowing the Talos' time to move in and engage with thier own weapons.
Deployment: Another mainstay of the TDF lances of Toro II's are commonly used to augment the stiking power of Talos lances, generally staying back to continue offering supporting fire if the Talos units have to close in. Though a mainstay of VMI production for near two cenuries, the Toro II has not been licensed for sale to the vast majority of Mercenaries, barring the trusted units employed by the Concordat government. Though sales are occasionaly made to the neighboring Canopians and Outworlders, these are more moderate than anything else, giving the other Periphery powers the capacity to field a cadre of reliable and cheap medium mechs.
Variants: The only factory variant released for the Toro II is known as the Toro IIb or 'Bullrusher'. Replacing the Delta Dart LRMs for two Delta Bolt SRM 4 racks, put in to give the mech a more balanced engagement envelope, this mech has had low sales to the TDF, mainly due to the TDF prevaling doctrine to use the Toro as a long ranged harrasser. The Bullrusher has on the otherhand been found popular with the Magistracy, where it is seen as a capable alternative to the Panther.

I prefer to see a Toro with some Stealth Armor or some kind of benefit from the Trinity Alliance.

I built the Toro II with Introtech. It was a 'what if' thing of the Taurians trying to reintroduce their age of War homegrown designs during the Succession Wars, just retooled for ease on logistics (and because muh PPCs). I'll be sorting out their 3058 and Trinity Alliance upgrades in the near future, and will post them when I've gotten em done.
