Overview:
Sylviana Kane was born in the Capellan Confederation in 3050, the day the clans
invaded the Inner Sphere, the daughter of a local law enforcement officer and a
yoga teacher. Orphaned at a very early age she spent much of her early life in
orphanages and foster homes where she grew into a strong-headed, and rebellious
teenager before she was shunted into a mechwarrior training program by a
distant relative.
She proved an excellent student and graduated near the top of her class and
served as a Vindicator pilot for three years in the Capellan Reserve, but was
discharged for insubordination. After two years of menial jobs she applied for
a position in a small mercenary outfit called the Raveners. Sylviana was
offered an ancient salvaged Battleaxe mech. A natural talent with the PPC she
was given a lance command after single-handedly taking out a lance of enemy
mechs.
The Raveners were soon caught up in the Jihad and found themselves fighting for
their lives with WOB mechs on Alcor. Scattered and battered the command lance
tried to fight their way back to the dropships when they bumped into a WOB
assault lance, among them an Atlas II. The fighting was brutal and Sylviana's
mech had been badly damaged. She attempted a death from above attack on the
Altas II, but debris got stuck in her jump jets causing a malfunction, sending
her Battleaxe crashing into the Atlas II, knocking it down. This allowed the
surviving Raveners to destroy the Atlas, but Sylviana was badly injured.
Still pursued by the WOB forces, the Raveners fell back to their base for a
last stand when a Marauder mech appeared out of nowhere, while a Mule dropship
landed nearby, loading the surviving Raveners before the WOB was able to get to
them.
Sylviana was the last to board with only a single functioning PPC left. Once
aboard she was approached by the Marauder pilot who introduced himself as
Gideon and gave her a computer file that revealed that she was the illegitimate
daughter of Shang Tseng, head of the Maskirovka and an unknown courtier. Her
father had her smuggled away and placed with a foster family for her own safety
as the political repercussions of her existance could be devastating.
It took Sylviana several months to heal her injuries and use her cybernetic
replacements. Together with Gideon she rebuilt the remnants of the Raveners
into a new unit.
Capabilities:
Sylviana's ancient battleaxe was modified with extra armour, the complete
removal of all weapons, installing a pair of Clan ER PPCs and twin ER Medium
lasers, tied into a targeting computer and plenty of heat sinks to use them
nearly continually. How she acquired these Clan weapons is unknown.
Battle History:
The Raveners fought in various places during the Jihad and was even targeted by
Manei Domini units. The Raveners struggled to escape destruction for nearly
two years, but were cornered on Apostica where Sylviana engaged another Atlas
II piloted by the same man she had defeated two years previously. Their duel
was brief, she seriously damaged the Atlas II using her PPCs at range and then
closed in for another death from above attack, but the Atlas II scored a hit
with one of his ER Large Lasers damaging her cockpit, moments before she landed
on the cockpit and destroyed the cockpit, killing the unidentifed World of
Blake pilot. Her own cockpit was badly damaged and caught fire, unable to
eject she had to be rescued by her fellow Raveners. She succumbed to her
injuries and the surviving Raveners disbanded the unit.
Additional:
Comstar's ROM was given advance warning of activity around Shang Tseng by a
deep undercover mole. Briefly before his death Tseng left instructions for
Gideon, a former Death Commando to inform her of her true origins and protect
her from Romano's assassins. It is believed that Thuggee assassins were
instrumental in the death of her foster parents, but Romano Liao's sudden death
ended the operation. When Gideon discovered she had mustered out and joined a
Merc outfit, he commandeered a Marauder mech and using a contraband-running
dropship to transport him to Alcor and rescued Sylviana from Word of Blake
forces. Though her identity was known to WOB ROM, it is believed that she
incurred the wrath of a WOB commander who used WOB troops under his command in
a personal vendetta against her. The fact that other elements of the WOB
forces present during their fight did not intervene is seen as a sign that WOB
leadership disapproved of this and believed that Sylviana might become an asset
if she had survived.

The Mule turned out to be an SLDF Q-Dropship, an old pirate-hunter used by Clan Ghost Bear to gather intel in the Inner Sphere. They made a deal with the Raveners and provided the weapons when her mech was mauled in the first fight against the Atlas II.
