Overview:
We just buried Lex, guy had barely clocked six months as a tech. Reasonably
smart, never shirked, worked all-nighters to get a job done. I figured that in
a few years he'd be a fine tech if it weren't for that piece of boondock
mech-drek the Coronel-Kapetein cursed us with.

"Blaster", somebody thought it was funny to have his 7-year old nephew name it
and have his 9-year old nephew design it. It's supposed to look like an Atlas,
but 15 tons lighter. The chassis is based on a Battlemaster's, except that
whoever cryowelded it together had never used one before. Many welding globs
are the size of my fist, some even bigger. They just cut the structural beams
with a plasma torch, leaving jagged edges everywhere. If you get inside
without triple-checking everything, you're bound to lose some fingers, an eye
or get a nasty cut all the way to the bone. Of course this means the myomers
rub against the skeleton and wear out faster than a pair of pants on fire. Not
that the engine is any better. It sputters and cuts out when you least expect
it. Looks like somebody salvaged an old engine fixed it up with whatever they
had on hand, painted the outside and sold it as new. The Gyro was probably
designed for a medium mech, they just made it work by increasing the rotation
speed and putting in some concrete blocks to add weight. Can't wait for the
steel cables to snap under the strain and send several hundreds of kilos of
concrete ricocheting around the inside of the Blaster.

The weapons are a mixed batch. Oddly enough the autocannon is pretty decent,
seems like they got their hands on a bunch of Pontiac 100's. The bad news is
that the ammo feed is substandard which means that while the first ton of ammo
works feeds fine, the second ton will invariably jam.

LRM15 is a knockoff of the Delta Dart, to make it fit the frame they had to
angle it, which throws off the aim, makes for a nice scatter pattern though, if
that's what you want.

The SRM6 is a ticking timebomb, whoever rigged that together ought to be shot
out of an autocannon. In order to even fire, the ammo has to be hotwired which
means all the warheads are loaded armed into the weapon. This means that any
shock or even the backblast of the previous volley can set off a catastrophic
explosion chain.

The lasers are terrible, no matter how many times you recalibrate them, they
get out of focus after a few shots and the emitters are so shoddy they start to
overheat. Before long they get hot enough to melt the metal around them.

Surprisingly the Blaster has double-strength heat sinks and they are the reason why Lex
got killed. Somebody couldn't even get proper heat sinks so they cooked up
their own. Must have found some old diagrams of FedSun prototype corrosive
freezers. Besides being a huge hazard, some piece of human sludge decided that
a warning label was not hardcore enough and when Lex opened the valve to drain
one of them he was right beneath it because the only way a human being can
access it is through the underside ...

I'm not even going to have this mech scrapped, I'm going to attach some cargo rocket
boosters to it and when we dustoff, just before we dock with the jumpship,
we're kicking it into the direction of the sun.

Capabilities:
Created by Neemis Enterprises, “Better Weapons for a Better Tomorrow.” is
their motto. A periphery company, it has taken the local markets by storm
through a highly obnoxiously aggressive marketing campaign. Building cheap
knockoffs of popular Inner Sphere designs with inferior salvaged technology,
Neemis attracts those who cannot afford regular mechs or are desperate for
anything that even looks like one.

The Master-Blaster is a straight copy of the Atlas and tries to mimic its most
iconic configuration. The design is shoddy and dangerous in use and is being
banned in many systems for being unsafe under any condition.

When confronted with this, Neemis spokesmen decried the skills of the pilots
and techs and deemed their designs "are so extreme that on the most hardcore
edgessprinter can fully drokk our awesome mechs."

Oddly enough Neemis' mechs have a cult following, mostly young and brash pilots
who identify with the image Neemis projects of its clientele. The high death
rate is seen as a sign of excellence and that pilots are indeed pushing the
limits further than ever before.

This sub-culture is spreading to other mechwarriors who handle their machines
recklessly and even rig them to explode when the enemy comes near. Some use
heavily modified industrialmechs for this purpose, which end up more like
suicide weapons than true combat mechs. It remains to be seen how far and what
proportions this will reach in coming years or that it will extinguish itself.

Battle History:
Neemis mechs have an extremely poor record though it did defeat one opponent in
a most spectacular way. A Master-Blaster challenged a Mad-Cat IV and rushed it
at top speed. By the time the mech had reached its foe, the engine was going
critical and the ammo was about to explode. The Mad-Cat braced for impact but
was vaporized in the explosion. The Master Blaster pilot managed to eject with
80% third degree burns and survived long enough for one last celebratory cry of
victory. This video has lead to many copycat actions where young pilots rig
mechs with extra weapons and charge their enemy, alpha-striking with everything
they have and then self-destructing at point-blank range.

I like the fluff. I could see a whole MW campaign for the player characters sent to "repay" Neemis for their lackluster items.
