Did you just make a LAM with a safe thrust of 2?

I wonder what the ASF jocks will think.
"God damnit, why couldn't the bloody mechjocks keep the Urbies to themselves?!?!"

I thought LAMs had a minimum-engine-size requirement, similar to hovercrafts.
On a related note, you remember the quad LAM I designed way back?
Peace is that glorious moment in history when everyone stands around reloading.

Urbanmech LAMs would actually not be a bad idea. It'd be cheap and strategic mobility would be less of an issue.

LOL.
I guess that will be in the next boxed set of battle tech. Maybe even the front cover.
Now that does give me an idea. We could use a thread that has comics like this in it. Show the glamours side of the cruddy mechs, and the bad side of the bad boys.

I can't see why not unless there are rules against it.
Nonsensical rules are to be discarded to me.

It's specifically mentioned in the construction rules. Something about the bulk of those systems preventing the shift between Mech-AirMech-Fighter.

Ah, same arbitrary concept that keeps tanks from using DHSs?

I can see why they aren't allowed, though research should be able to overcome the problems of the extra bulk of the endosteel and armor. The xle I can see since it requires spots in the side torso, which on a lam become the wings.

It really does make sense, as vehicles are (in many ways) superior to 'Mechs. Were they allowed to use DHS, or LAMs able to fit XL Engines, they would dwarf standard BattleMechs in capabilities.

I get the need for balance, but in both the cases of LAMs and tanks the "reasoning" of bulk isn't very well thought out; for example, a tank can fit 20 standard heat sinks with ease, but 10 clan heat sinks is too much of a stretch, despite the fact that the crit slots on Mech's show that they take up the same amount of space.

Tanks are superior mainly in the fact they can mount non energy weapons and not worry about the heat from them. It the same thought, they are destroyed in fires, and from inferno rockets, but not concerned about the missile launchers heating it up.
Mechs can do things tanks can't. I have yet to see a tank jump up and down on a mech.
With heatsinks, I can see where people would use dhs in everything, and not worry about space constrains like a mech does. I think it is minimal since they engine weigh so much, wiether ice or fusion/transmission (which I think is bs). Most vehicles are limited in what type of terrain they can enter. So how would a tank be superior if they let a few things thru? Because it would be a serious threat to a mech. There is no a whole lot they could do to make a mech superior if they used everyday logic.

what happened to the cartoon from 03/11/14? It now shows a small box with an x in it? Was it removed, or did one of the upgrades pull it out?

I don't think it qualifies as a LAM, that picture makes the Urbie so round and thin it could qualify as a hovercraft lol

If you want to save weight in an LAM, try using a Composite Internal Structure. Not to be confused with Endo-Composite. Maybe switch to Commercial Armor as well, since LAMs rely on Agility rather than Armor to keep them alive, Commercial Armor is still very good against small arms fire, and with anything that can actually score a Critical Hit on you, chances are they are already using weapons that do at least 10 points of damage... So all in all, a BAR of 5 isn't that bad of a trade-off for 24 PPT without using crits.
As for UrbanMechs as a whole, you really, REALLY should consider switching from Autocannons to Energy Weapons.

That said, regarding Hovercraft and the like? If there were rules for making HoverMechs (outside of Mecha Press or Welcome to Nebula California), then an UrbanMech would be a good candidate for a HoverMech conversion.
