==Overview:==
The Challenger entered service just as the Fed-Com Civil War was whinding down. The Challenger was built to meet the needs of a hard hitting mech that can tear it's oppeants to pieces and not fall apart from the return fire.

It is hoped that sales of this mech increase as all involved in the Civil War rush to rebuild their militaries to avoid appearing weak to the neighbors.

==Capabilities:==
In building the Challenger the designers at the RMI, tried to meet request that the mech not have to many ammo depeant weapons and that if it could be done it only have one.

The Challenger sports two Magna Sunspot ER PPCs to give it's long range punch and devastating firepower. Backing these up is an Exostar LRM 20, with enough ammo to not run dry when lest expected.

These long range weapons are supported by one Sureshot Streak Streak SRM 4 and two Diverse Optics Type 20X ER Medium Lasers along with a Diverse Optics Sunbeam ER Small Laser.

This well round aresenal has made the mech a favortie among the troops of the Dongel Republic and The Cappllean March.

==Battle History:==
The Challenger saw very limited fighting in the closing days of the Fed-Com Civil War, it preformed well and had glowwing praise from the mechwarroirs who had the honor of piloting one.

==Variants:==
Currently there are three variants undering consideration. One have the twin ER PPCs removed in favor of two ER Large Lasers.

Another drops the LRM20 in favor of an LRM15 and another ton of ammo. And third is a full blown refit that has not yet left the drawing boards at RMI.

==Deployment==
In service with forces in the Cappellan March and Donagel Republic. As well as Federated Sun units.

I'd have to say "no" to the MML on this one, without extensive modifications. The key is your heat scale: you already equalize your heat just with 2 x ERPPC + Run, leaving no heat dissipation for the LRM. In order to maintain roughly equivalent Long-Range with MMLs, you're need to trade both missile systems for a pair of MML-9s, which, after accounting for ammo, gives you same tonnage, more heat.

Not that it would be without advantages. You'd have greater versatility at long-range, swapping between MML/ERPPC and 2 x ERPPC as the situation demands, and your short-range would go off the charts, but not the way I'd chose to go.

I'd actually prefer to downgrade the LRM 20 to an LRM 15. Save 3 tons on the launcher, plus a ton on Ammo, you can throw on 1-2 more DHS and achieve more average damage due to your ability to fire all your Long Range more often. You can use Artemis to keep almost the same average damage per LRM volley, and use the rest to beef up your Short-Range.

Really comes down to what you want out of the unit. MMLs will turn you into a monster at close range, at the price of some long-range punch (although you gain versatility). Downgrading the LRM can give you a balanced increase in firepower at all ranges.

My opinion...of course, I'm not a big fan of the LRM 20 anyway...

I do like the ideas you have given for variants, and you have a good point about the heat.
