Yes, yes. I know. "Boo, BT Aliens! E.T. GO HOME!".

Bah Humbug.

----

An intro of some sort would normally go here. But I don't know enough about the canon history to meld this in.

Idk. IS encounters strange looking people in strange looking, often hovering vehicles in the deep periphery. Short skirmish occurs. The result is irrelevant, they live to tell the tale, maybe capture a vehicle or two. Maybe.

----

Type 26 Banshee Ground Support Craft
While sometimes called a fighter by those who face it, this is quite misleading. It's service ceiling of ~300 meters and top speed of ~120 km/h while not boosting can be easily matched by WWI biplanes. Yes, it's more agile than any aerospace or conventional fighter in existance, but it's pathetic speed makes it seem less like a true air asset. Still, it scared the crap out of the first inner sphere expedition force into the deep periphery. Especially when some of them started flying backwards to get another shot at them!

It packs a small armament that is particularly effective against infantry and vehicles. 2 class-2 autolasers are coupled with a Fuel Rod Plasma Cannon with 100 seconds of firing time. The former are short ranged and are risky to use, and are generally considered backup weapons. The latter is a significantly longer ranged component that is capable of mauling conventional infantry and tanks in the open.

If a lucky, yet easily made shot to the wing(motive system) doesn't disable the banshee, a small bit of attrition will. Despite being a ground attack craft, it is not well armored and only surpasses conventional fighters in that regard. It, otherwise, relies on it's "speed" as well of it's compact size to be difficult to hit.

Upon noticing that the Fuel Rod Cannon had similar effects to the clan Plasma Cannon, the IS tried sending Riflemans modified with DHS and low heat weaponry like LB 5-X ACs. When four flight of Banshees attempted to attack the lance, they realized the futility of doing so far, far too late. Only one escaped, and later got shot down

Ghost Type 32 Rapid Attack Vehicle
Yet another small vehicle, but this one doesn't have wings. Like the Banshee, it's most effective en masses. Since it's most common adversary are infantry, it mounts the same class-2 autolasers of the Banshee. That's it, though. It's suited to recon duty, but not much else.

Of special note is it's vulnerable rear. It isn't armored at all, whatsoever. If you can achieve a hit there, you kill the driver. If you can't, don't worry; the rest of the vehicle's armor isn't exactly stellar.

Wraith Type 26 Assault Gun Carriage
As the name suggests, it carries an Assault Gun. The Assault Gun in this case would be a Heavy Plasma Mortar. What isn't suggested by this classification is that this "mortar" is actually a full fledged artillery piece. The Wraith's sole purpose in life is to carry this artillery piece with quite a bit of haste. To assure this very expensive vehicle won't bite the big one all too easily, a whopping 15 tons of armor is present, and it's built on an armored chassis. Like many other of these alien vehicles, this one has the ability to boost it's speed for a short time. Against flanking speedsters who aim to disable this behemoth, two medium-grade autolasers are located on the sides. Against infantry, as though the bloody artillery piece was not enough, a frontal Class 2 Autolaser on the hull discourages the advance of conventional platoons.

The newer Wraiths, this model shown below, have the Mortar in a turret.

Also, for some reason, the Type 26 Wraith and the Type 26 Banshee have the same Type #.

*Note, the Heavy Mortar's stats are the same as the Sniper Artillery Piece with the SOLE exception being that the Heavy Mortar's damage type is energy instead of explosive. Even as an Energy Weapon, you need not calculate heat sinks for vehicles. Because it's my made-up weapon and I say so.

Revenant Type 48 Light Assault Gun Carriage

The Revenant is a vehicle that's a dedicated infantry and light vehicle killer, at which it is scary good. It's light Plasma Rifled Cannon melts conventional infantry platoons by the dozens with scary efficiency. It even packs enough kinetic punch to damage mechs, with the addition of heat which can and has seriously thrown off the normal heat curves of other mechs, which by itself can turn the tide of battle at an inopportune moment. It is not unheard of, and is actually fairly common when these forces are encountered, for a mech to attempt an alpha strike on one vehicle, driving up it's own heat, only to be hit by four Revenants and maybe a banshee or two, shutting down a few seconds later.

Carriage to me suggest a towed field gun or artillery piece not a self mobile unit.

Scarab Type 47 Ultra Heavy Assault Platform
By far the scariest thing encountered in the first patrol were the Scarabs. These supersized behemoths were much larger than most of the patrol, which often had Marauders as their largest mech. A sort of a jack of all trades, this configuration carries multiple autolasers to fend off enemies, a specialized anti-air array mounted in a turret, and a frontal weapon that could nearly completely shave off the center armor of an Atlas with a good first salvo. Often, very tough aliens would ride on the Scarabs, unprotected from enemy fire. However, they aren't piloting it; even after shooting off all of the people on it the Scarab keeps operating.

Closer inspections revealed that the Scarab wasn't completely mechanical. In fact, between the armor platings many wormlike... organisms, thinking independantly of the grunts on top. After taking one apparently alive, IS scientists determined that the most efficient way is to shoot at the head of the Scarab, which has been found to instantly render it incapable of functioning, also known as "death".

suggest reading alot of the older designs retry has posted here. A few of the ones hes posted has had a few people arguing about inconsistancy with the game line. Granted it is not canon and has never been put forth as canon.

"A few" doesn't do it justice...

But yeah, most aren't designed to ever be plausible in the canon timeline. Yet they still receive flak.

go into a star wars chat room and tell them they should have transporters and phasors.

Or go into a star trek chat room and tell them they need to use the force. Spock should be able to.

Or ask either why they don't use jump gates.

Canon vs fan fiction is the issue here. I do not see why they can't invent weapons that produce less heat, or spend the extra money making smart missiles again. Spending 15 million on a few missiles that would save you billion dollar dropship would be worth the money.
