==Overview:==
During the War of 3039, FedCom forces captured a significant number of Maulers
in battle from DMCS forces. The MAL-3FC is an attempt to salvage and refurbish
those units for its own army.

==Capabilities:==
In an attempt to quickly repair the damaged mechs and press them back into
service on a limited budget, technicians removed all the Draconis Combine
weaponary and replaced it with standard off the shelf components found through
the Federated Commonwealth.

While the FedCom version uses standard large lasers in place of the ER
versions, it mounts an additional medium laser in each arm and two mounted
rearward in the center torso. The LRM-15 racks are replaced with a single
LRM-10 and an SRM-6, both Artemis IV equipped. While this reduces the long
range missile capability of the Mauler, it gains close range firepower and
accuarcy.The quad AC/2s mounted in the chest are upgraded to two Ultra-AC/5s,
each supplied with 1 ton of ammo.

Finally, the armor is upgraded to 17 tons of standard armor, giving the
Mauler more respectable protection then its Kurtian counterpart.

All of the weapon upgrades necessitated the downgrading of the engine to a
standard 180 fusion engine. While slower, its offset with the addtion of a
jump capability of 60 meters.

I always liked the look of the Mauler. Just didn't like the low armor and AC-2 setup. This one is a bit slower and more durable without the XL, but gains some mobility and more armor as a mid-ranger.

nice job, though changing an engine isn't quick or easy

Though only a ton of ac ammo is not enough for each cannon.
But is does keep with the ammo limits of the others, so I guess that would tell the pilot to pull back and get more.

Well, I was thinking this is more of a 3040ish timeline (a second line, line holder mech due to its slow speed). Not quite enough XLs lying around yet, but probably a lot of standard 180s from other upgraded mechs sitting around.

As for the ammo, I think 2 tons is fine. Its best to probably alternate each ac when double tapping to keep em from jamming. So, that would be about 13 rounds continous fire (pending heat levels, to hit rolls, and jamming an ac on "snake eyes") of 5-15 potentional damage from just the UAC-5s alone. If the mech can last 13 rounds without being destroyed or taking an ammo explosion crit, then I think it did its job quite well of living up to its name of mauling the enemy.

Mauler I was working on with a similar idea about it being a rebuild. Didn't have the fluff though. Fire support, mid range second line, and something long range with a nasty punch when it gets to fisticuff range.
