Overview:
Designed in the later days of the Jihad, the Kanabo never saw full production
until hearly half a century later. Originally meant as a stopgap, the simple,
but rugged mech was ideal for hastened production in the increasingly volatile
situation following the HPG blackout.



Capabilities:
A rugged and rough design with little or no fancy technology, the Kanabo relies
on proven weapons and technology easily obtained in the Draconis Combine.
Despite the mech's size and bulk, the Kanabo can be assembled much faster than
similar machines such as the Akuma or the Oroshi.


The main weaponry are a pair of Lord's Light 2 ER PPC's, the same weapon as
seen on the Panther. The secondary weaponr for short to medium range work are
a pair of MRM-40 launchers, capable of delivering up to 80 warheads it can pack
a huge punch against machines already weakened by PPC fire. Should the ammo
run out the Kanabo can still protect itself with a single ER Medium Laser.


18 tons of standard armour protect the Kanabo, applied with little regard for
design or even esthetics, the mech looks bulky and angular. A series of bumpy
ridges on the torso and arms reminded of the ancient Japanese war club after
which the mech was named. Despite its rough apearance the Kanabo is quite
durable, the Light Engine is less vulnerable than its XL-counterpart and the
ammo is protected by CASE. The relatively low speed is a shortcoming, but
since this is common to many assault mechs craeful use of time-honed tactics is
standard practice.


Lacking anti-infantry weaponry the MRM launchers have proven to be devastating
to regular and powered infantry alike and most troops have learned to stay out
of the crosshairs and attack only when the MRM ammo is spent.


Battle History:
The Kanabo saw action with Katana Tormark's forces against the Republic and the
invasion of the Federated Suns. Although somewhat outperformed by more
advanced equipment the Kanabo was often used as fire support or as a brawler,
doing quite well in dense environments like cities and forests. The punch and
durability of the Kanabo often sees it leading assaults or forming a last line
of defense, blasting away with PPCs and MRM's until the enemy is broken.


Deployment:
The Kanabo is still an uncommon sight in DCMS forces, but numbers are growing.
A small number have been sold on the open market to gain insight on how troops
with different tactics to the DCMS use the Kanabo in combat.


Variants:
A limited production run replaces the PPC's and CASE with Clan-spec versions
of Nova Cat origin. the Medium laser is then replaced by a pair of medium
pulse lasers. This variant is mostly used by commanders or kept with assault
elements in DCMS mechs regiments.

Definitely not on my list of things to run into. I really like the simplistic "let's get firepower on this thing, without sacrificing durability"
