Overview: The export version of the Cataphract, this mech is equipped with a well-rounded comm system and battlefield management software, making it a very effective command mech, while still being able to hold its own in combat.
Capabilities: The CTF-XP appears at first sight to be a retread to the original Cataphract prototype. It uses a conventional mix of weapons including a PPC, LB-10X and four Medium Lasers. Extremely well-protected and equipped with CASE the CTF-XP would have been a major contender in 3050.
An ECM protects the CTF-XP from enemy targeting and scanning systems.
With average speed for its size, the CTF-XP adds jump jets that allow the mech to deal with broken terrain very effectively as well as give it an edge in tactical combat.
The comm system and C3 management software is modified from Star League vintage technology. While useful for a battlefield commander it lacks the advanced features seen in more modern mechs, but like most export Monkey Models it is designed to be functional while eschewing the use of more advanced Capellan tech.
Oddly enough the Capellans have taken time to redesign the mech's appearance and make it look less cobbled-together than earlier versions.
Deployment: The Cataphract has proven quite popular and is finding customers in the most unlikely places. Peroformance reviews have been mostly positive and many are being assigned to lance and company leaders.
Variants: It has been suggested that a more advanced version featuring Stealth Armour and sophisticated technology such as a full command suite or even a C3 master exists, but no sightings or reports have been made so far.
An even simpler variant is available for Periphery customers, dropping the LBX autocannon and ECM for an AC/10 and adds the ever popular Rocket Launchers.
Inner Sphere and the more affluent customers have rushed to upgrade their XP's with ER PPC's and even Gauss Rifles, sometimes even of Clan origin.
