Overview: The second in the export series of mechs by the Capellan Confederation, the Catapult Lx2 made some changes to make this fire-support mech somewhat more efficient.
Capabilities: The Lx2 made several changes to the weaponry of the orignal Catapult. Dropping about half the original weaponry and replacing it with an MML9 and a surplus PPC from Cataphract upgrades.
Major improvements include an Endo-Steel skeleton and double strength heat sinks, allowing enough weight to be saved to add the PPC. CASE protects the mech from explosions.
The removal of two medium lasers has caused some criticism, but the PPC will fire accurately at ranges where LRM's might still go wild and the MML can pack a close range wallop when firing SRM.
Overall the changes have made the Catapult slightly less effective as an indirect fire support unit, but the broader mix of weapons makes it more versatile.
Variants: One variant uses an MML7 launcher and adds Artemis to all launchers. This version is sold mainly in the Inner Sphere because Artemis-capable ammo can be hard to find in some areas of the Periphery.

Wouldn't it be easier to simplify logistics with 2 MML-9s?

Capellans are cheapskates who want to re-use old stocks of weapons and parts in addition to the lure of some measure of advanced tech. Enough to wow the Periphery and still basic enough that they have a chance to maintain it. Nothing like a inrate customer trying to smash you over the head with a gauss rifle part that fell off and they can't fix ...
