Capabilities:
The Backstabber II is faster than the original and uses a supercharger to reach
speeds exceeding 170kph.

Because of the larger engine the original PPC's were too heavy and were
replaced by a pair of Light PPC's with Capacitators. Tied to a targeting
computer they can produce the same kind of punch as the original, but with much
greater accuracy.

The Backstabber is intended to be a hit- and-run mech, using speed to outflank
the enemy, backing up to recharge the Capacitators and then rushing back to
attack.

The main weaknesses are the relative weight, despite carrying high-powered
weapons the Backstabber is still a light mech and despite having maximum armour
protection it remains vulnerable to concentrated attacks. Even if attacked by
light mech hunters, the PPC's can be a powerful deterrent as nobody wants to
chase a mech that can deliver the same punch as a Warhammer by simply flipping
its arms.

Variants:
A "Royal" variant has recently been presented. It uses a pair of Clan ER Large
Lasers instead of Light PPC's. To make up for the greater weight it drops the
targeting computer.

Additional:
The original Backstabber was developed by the SLDF to respond to the Periphery
Uprising. Conventional units were unable to deal with the ambush tactics the
SLDF was confronted with. The Backstabber was designed to deal with this type
of threat. Compared to "a Locust revised by Satan himself" the original
Backstabber mouned a pair of PPC's and had a top speed of 119 kph. The
improved version designed by Randam Mechwerks uses advanced technology to make
it even deadiler.

Light PPC + Capacitor is a nasty weapon on a Light 'Mech. 3 tons less (total) than a standard PPC, but the same punch every second round. With that speed, it should be extremely rare to be forced to fire in consecutive rounds.

Very nice little raider.
Peace is that glorious moment in history when everyone stands around reloading.
