The RPG I'm making is a sci-fi 'in the future' type RPG.

Basically its in the future and there is a new 'super soldier' (The equivalent of battle armor and Hawken mechs) that are dominating the battlefield.
I don't have any stories/ plots to the RPG, but I have made some weapons, tech, and basic (insert word for mech/battle armor thing).

Just wanted to see what everyone thought of it and to get any advice.

Holo Decoy 1 (Activate it and it makes a decoy of you go forward for a short amount of time)
Holo Decoy 2 (Heavier/Bigger but holo decoy lasts longer)
LES *Laser Editing System* (Basically allows you to manually edit lasers to custom version. So if you want a longer range laser for sniping you can edit the laser to do that, but then you get into close combat you can hide for a sec and edit the laser for close range. Pretty OP but RIDICULOUSLY expensive)

no ballistic weapons for mechs? The ones you listed seem to be personal weapons, not vehicle or larger, except the railgun. The rest seem like a jeep mount is the largest. I am guessing artillery has yet to be decided.

I don't know how you are starting the time line, but I would suggest the stealth stuff as well as some of the more advanced scanners be added in later, or taken from the enemy before use.

And will it be everyone is in one unit? or will they fight each other?

I will reserve judgement on the laser cores until I see a little more on it.

And the big question. How will you run it?

Well so far the RPG is in like the first 3% of the game, so A LOT will be changed/ added.
You have to remember that this RPG is not 50 story Mechs, its like battle armor. So those ballistics would work.

The sides will be like pre-invasion IS wars. So I'm working on how the advanced stuff gets involved.

From my basic idea there are 'sides' that fight.

Laser-cores remember stuff will change.

I really don't know how to run it yet :\. I am going to try it in the beta stages with friends ect. But over all I really have no idea yet.

You will still need to come up with that data such as tank cannons and such, because it would be stupid not to have things like that on pillboxes and defense turrets. Even with powered armor, they will still be effective.

But it is difficult to come up with a new game on the fly. Movement will be an issue, since it can make or break a game.
But it would be interesting to have input into it.

The hardest part(s) of making a game from scratch (IMHO):

1) Balancing (having nothing too "OP", but still having variance between things and having unique items)

2) Other players using things in unexpected ways and breaking the game

3) Having the attention span to work on and finish the game

4) Writing the rules clearly and concisely while covering every single possibility

This isn't to say "don't make your own game", but I'm just warning you that there's going to be obstacles you must overcome. I've made a few games of my own (mostly smaller things), and I find that oftentimes if the project is too large or is not well defined enough, you can get off track and not finish it. I've had many more uncompleted game ideas than finished games.

I'd say change it to something like "Variable Laser System" and have it so that the barrel size and power emitted can vary so that it is decent at short range but weak at long range. That way it can have varying uses but still be balance-able. That's just what I think.

These are not like personal machine guns or pistols. These are basically battle armor sized weapons, so instead of holding a machine gun its so big that you have to strap it to the armor itself. Much like the guns in Hawken, just bigger versions of pre-existing guns.

Update: Possible idea for 'battle armor like suites' chassis

Three types: Light, Medium, and Heavy

Overview:
Head
Left and Right Torsos
Center Torsos
Left and Right Arms (Upper and Lower sections)
Hip
Left and Right Legs (Upper and Lower sections *possible knee*)
Left and Right Feet (Not sure about this one)

Equipment, Weapon, and Ammo slots (ES, WS, AS):

Every weight class has a certain amount of slots available to use. Players can put any type of slot in any location (Unless said otherwise). But each location can only hold a certain amount of total slots so you can't put 10 ES in a left arm, also each location can only hole a certain amount of each type of slots so you can't put 3 WS and 2 AS in a torso (unless stated otherwise). Each weight class can hold different amounts of slots, listed below:

hawken? is that a game or a specific weapon in one?

I will say the idea of having lasers lose potency over distance is a great idea. Depending on how you set it up, maybe a point a mile or so That would mean the better lasers could still do damage where the cheap ones wouldn't even if it is the same class of laser.

Now suits that some people do know are things like the halo suits, as well as like iron man.

Now with your stats, it would be a good idea to explain what the abbreviations are. I am assuming AS is ammo slot, with WS being weapons slot, and ES being electronic slots.
But that is a guess.

It's a fast-moving shooter kinda like MWO (free, only online, Mech-ish) but is more COD-esq.



To Firestarter:

Be sure not to set anything in stone right away as things will change a lot for balancing and such. I may suggest you look at the Front Mission game series. They are BT Mech sized but it plays like a board game and has some interesting features in it. PM me if you want me to explain it more in-depth.

Yeah, so the weapons are Hawken sized, but the 'bodies' are more bulky Iron Man suits.

If you have seen Iron Man 3 the blue 'IGOR' suit is what they look like, but a bit more militaristic looking.

I would have to rewatch it. Had alot of distractions going on when I first got the movie watched.
