Overview
The Recluse was designed by Platypus 'Mech Works to work along the classic Star League-era Spider, providing ranged fire support while being able to keep up with the fast spec ops 'Mech.
Capabilities
A 210-rated Fusion Engine was the core of the Recluse, making it, while not quite as fast as the Spider, able to keep pace with a Jenner. It lacked its partner's extreme jump capability, however. This was made up for with five and a half tons of standard armor that provided sufficient protection for such a small 'Mech. Armament revolved around a pair of LRM-5's, which, while not particularly powerful, proved excellent for providing token indirect fire support as well as in pursuits of faster 'Mechs. One ton of ammunition was stored in the center torso. The only backup weapons were centerline and head-mounted Medium and Small Lasers. Originally, the designers intended to replace the Medium with two additional Smalls for better close-in firepower, but that would allow the creation of an exploitable 'dead zone' between the minimum range of the LRM's and the maximum range of the lasers. The Medium, therefore, fills in the gap nicely. Ten single heat sinks were installed on the 'mech.
Deployment
Unfortunately, limited resources on Platypus 'Mech Works' home planet severely limited the yearly output of Recluses, meaning that by the end of the Succession Wars all known examples had been destroyed or lost. Blueprints, however, survived and were inherited by Damage, Inc.; despite this there are currently no plans to return the FSA-30 or its variants to service.
Variants
FSAb-30: The "Royal Recluse." Used an Endo-Steel chassis to free up space for 1.5 additional tons of armor, maxing out armor protection. Ferro-Fibrous armor was utilized, freeing up half a ton of space, which was used to upgrade the Small Laser to a second Medium.

Wow. No mention of the little bug that started the fast light mech, the locust. Though the main variant isn't much of a threat to the larger mechs, the one that swaps out the mg's and ammo for more lasers is.

As for this mech, it does seem to be decent for fire support roles.

One suggestion would be remove half ton armor and small laser, and add a second medium. It would help with defense, and with the speed, it should not hurt losing the half ton, while the extra medium laser would definitely increase it's firepower. And without the minimum range, should be a better choice over the small laser.

But then it starts looking like other mechs.

double wording was removed.

Thanks for the advice.

"But then it starts looking like other mechs."

Exactly, I wanted to do something that hadn't been quite done before. I looked at the Spider and said, What does this need? Then it hit me: LRMs. Kit out a lance, one Recluse, one Spider, one Wolfhound, one Locust, and you've got a nice little classic force going that can take on most anything up to a Medium lance if used right. Locust runs ahead dodging fire, sneaks around to rear armor, Spider does the same using its jets to dodge in and out of LOS, doubling as spotter, Recluse gives supporting fire, Wolfhound engages anything that closes with the Recluse.
