Overview
A simple domestic design for blue-water patrolling, the Meniscus was robust and cheap, wildly popular on oceanic worlds. Damage, Inc. sold it in large numbers.
Capabilities
A displacement hull was selected, rather than a hydrofoil chassis, for its ease of maintenance. A fuel-cell engine was installed, with a rating of 130, allowing this little 20-tonner incredible speed for a ship of its type. It was lightly armored, with three tons of standard armor distributed across its hull. Simple armament was provided--a Light AC/2 mounted in a turret, with one ton of ammunition. While not very impressive against hardened targets, the autocannon was perfect for interdictor work, possessing sufficient punch to take down domestic targets without annihilating the surrounding area as well. A one-ton storage compartment was also included, for hauling supplies and/or detainees.
Deployment
With incredible speed and robustness, the Meniscus is often sent solo on long-range blue-water patrols and also has proven to be a popular escort/interdictor craft.
Variants
Meniscus P-DB-20: Removes the storage compartment and upgrades the autocannon to a Light AC/5, retooling the ammunition bay to hold one ton of LAC/5 rounds instead of those designed for the -/2. This allows for a heavier punch against more hardened targets.
