Overview
The Malice was a staple design of Platypus 'Mech works, being produced for several Great Houses, often as a compliment to the popular Enforcer, when it became apparent that their Sledgehammer design wasn't going to supplant the popular brawler.
Capabilities
Weighing in at 45 tons, the Malice mounted a full ten tons of armor, superior to the Enforcer and able to 'tank' an AC/20 hit to the center torso...once. Hand actuators were removed and replaced, in the left arm, with a Medium Laser and Small laser, while the actuators of the right arm were replaced with an AC/10 with one ton of ammo, which was stored in the right torso. Speeds of 87 kilometers per hour were allowed by the 225-rated standard fusion engine, faster than the Enforcer or Sledgehammer, although the 'Mech still lacked the former's jump capability. The one Heat Sink outside the engine is installed in the Center Torso.
Battle History
The 'Royal' variant of the Malice served with distinction as a city fighter under the legendary Aleksander Kerensky during the Reunification War, while the standard model served throughout the Succession Wars, infamously being used in brutal close-range ambushes and brawls, using its speed (at the time) and heavy armament to obliterate other Light and medium 'Mechs.
Variants
G-BA-45b: The Royal Malice, used exclusively by the SLDF, with some ancient examples possibly surviving in Brian Caches at the Clan homeworlds. Replaces the autocannon with an LB10-XAC with two tons of ammo, upgrades the armor to Ferro-Fibrous and the chassis to Endo-Steel, and replaces the lasers with Pulse versions. Also installs two jump jets in each leg, allowing a total jump capacity of one hundred and twenty meters, equaling the jump capacity of the Enforcer. Heat sinks upgraded to double-strength versions, ensuring no waste heat is generated even when moving and jumping, and the extra heat sink is moved to the left torso.
Malice G-BB-45: A modern refit. Upgrades the autocannon to a mammoth Ultra AC/20 by removing the lower arm actuators from the right arm, installing three tons of ammo in the right torso, and replacing the Small Laser and Medium Laser with, respectively, a Light PPC and a Pulse version of the Medium. Incredibly potent for such a small 'Mech but costs more than twice as much as the original Malice due to its Endo-Steel, Ferro-Fibrous armor, and XL engine that boosts speeds to 96 kph.
