Overview
The PNT-9S was the designation given to a refit of captured Draconis Panther 'Mechs seized by House Steiner during the Succession Wars and retooled to a more 'versatile' standard.
Capabilities
Starting with the PNT-9R chassis,Lyran techs stripped the weapons and engine, leaving only the chassis, heat sinks, jump jets, and armor installed. Armor protection was maxed out at 7.5 tons, and the installation of a larger 175-rated engine increased speeds to up to 86 kph, on par with a Dragon or Dervish. An additional jump jet was installed in the center torso to boost mobility even further. The PPC for which the Panther was famous was downgraded to a standard, easier to maintain, and cooler-running Large Laser. The centerline SRM-4 and ammunition were retained, and a Machine gun was installed in each side torso with half a ton of ammo to share.
Deployment
Ironically, as casualties mounted up, the refitted -9S Panthers were captured by Kuritans and used against their previous owners, resulting sometimes in the awful hilarity of Steiner pilots, in Kuritan 'Mechs, piloting against Kurita pilots, in Steiner 'Mechs that used to be Kuritan. One pilot whose name has been lost through the ages dubbed this phenomenon Pantherception.
