Capabilities A 25-ton wheeled chassis with three and a half tons of armor was selected, with a 155 ICE engine providing surprising speeds for a vehicle of its era. The Sabertache carried a turret-mounted Medium Laser as an ammo-independent main weapon, and two machine guns were also mounted in the turret. A machine gun was mounted in the front, and all three were fed from a half-ton ammo bin in the body of the vehicle. Battle History The Sabertache served throughout the Third Succession War with distinction in its given role, often utilizing hit-and-fade tactics, or being used in guerrilla warfare thanks to its lack of dependency on ammunition for its main weapon. However, due to its light armor, commanders throwing it into use as a main-line combat vehicle got consistently thrashed, earning the Sabertache a bad reputation in some quarters. Variants The only other variant to be produced by Platypus 'Mech Works was the Sabertache Light Combat IFV, which downgraded the engine to a 130-rating to allow the installation of a two-ton infantry bay in the body, allowing infantry units to be transported rapidly across the battlefield.
After PMW was reborn in the 3050's as Damage, Inc., the designs for the Sabertache were dusted off and revamped into the Sabertache Mk. II. The original Sabertache's engine was replaced with an identically-rated Fuel Cell Engine to allow the installation of an additional Medium Laser in the turret, and the MG's are replaced with Light versions with a full ton of ammo. Another variant was produced as well, the Sabertache Mk. II Up-Armored Combat Vehicle, which upgraded the Fuel Cell Engine to a 180-rated model for even more speed, increased armor protection to six and a half tons, nearly doubling the original vehicle's armor protection. To facilitate this, one Light Machine Gun was removed, as well as the standard Mk. II's extra Medium Laser.
