------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== A thirty-first century upgrade of the Federated Sun's Imperator , the Imperator IMPRTR-2D is a complete redesign utilizing newer and more advanced technology to allow a field commander to coordinate his unit and keep track of the constantly changing battlefield.
==Capabilities:== To achieve the Imperator's new capabilities, the mech's older weaponry and electronic systems were removed to allow a complete overhaul.
The standard 200 Xl engine was removed for a 300 Vlar Light Fusion Engine, increasing the mech's top speed to 54 km/h. The 19 tons of Valiant Lamellor remains virtually unchanged, except for the addition of CASE II systems, further reducing the effects of catastrophic ammo explosions. Two more double heat sinks are added, for a total of 12.
The quad LRM-15s mounted in the arms are replaced with four Doombud MML-7s, supplied by four tons of ammo stored in the torso. While less then half the volley of the LRMs, it allows the flexibility of SRMs and other type of missile munitions. One laser was removed, while the remaining were upgraded to Exo-Star Medium X-Pulse lasers in the arms and Bright-Blossom ER Medium lasers in the torso and rear right leg. The AMS was upgraded to a Laser system and removed to the left hip actuator due to a cockpit refit.
The weapons setup pales in comparison to its upgraded electronics. The standard cockpit was completely rebuilt with a Command Console integrated with satellite up-link capability to give a complete picture of a chaotic battlefield to the commander. The C3 system was upgraded to a pair of Multi-Lynx C3 Boosted Master computers. Already resilient to most forms of Ewar, the Multi-Lynx C3b-MU computers are further protected with an improved communication system linked to Angel ECM, virtually unable to be disrupted save for destruction of the mech.
Unfortunately, all of this massive capability comes at several prices, namely a 33 million C-Bill price tag and high maintenance costs. The advanced cockpit electronics leave very little room, resulting in a very confined space for the pilot and commander. Finally, the poor quality of shielding around the Laser AMS can result in EM interference in the other electronics, sometimes resulting in a complete collapse in the C3 network.
==Variants:== Due to the high pricetag, the -2D is typically reserved for highly capable battalion and regiment command officers of the AFFS, all though one was awarded to a mercenary company for outstanding performance. Aside from minor custom variations, (most notably replacing the LAMS with a standard AMS in the right torso and ammo in the corresponding leg) other less capable, but still quite impressive variations exist.
The -2E is made for lance commanders, replaceing the C3 Boosted Master Computer in the right torso with a C3 Emergency Master as back up, should the company commander's network be comprimised. Fitted with only two MML-7s, the -2E also makes use of an Improved Narc Beacon to increase missile accuracy and Large X-Pulse laser in the right torso for additional firepower and upgrading the remounted ER Medium to an X-pulse. A heatsink is added, while the missile ammo and CASE II systems are relocated to the arms. A more common standard AMS is mounted in the head.
The -2G is a standard front line mech, utilizing light ferro-fibrous armor, a standard engine, and 17 double heat sinks. Twin MML-9s and Large X-Pulse Lasers are the back bone of its firepower, along with 3 medium X-Pulse Lasers for close combat and a standard AMS for missile defense. The -2G's electronics are not as sophisticated as other models, lacking any C3 and ECM components.

Does the c3 work with the mml? I don't think it works with lrms, so was wondering. If it doesn't that might be a weak point to having a c3 system, though this looks to by the mech to run the complete company. Other then that, I seems to be something that will work as the company command mech.

Quote: Does the c3 work with the mml? I don't think it works with lrms, so was wondering.
Multi-missile launchers are pretty much standard missile launchers that can use any SRM, LRM, Narc or alternate form of ammunition save for Artemis equipped missiles (I think. My HMP is allowing me slot to Artemis, but I think that has to do with the function of the custom weapon editor. If anyone could clarify that, I don't mind being wrong). Another way of thinking of MMLs is as smaller form of missile launcher then a SRM/LRM, only it has a multi-ammo feed selector (hence their bigger critical slots).
C3 works with any weapon, except artillary, as long as both friend units (shooter, "forward observer") have direct LOS to the enemy. If the "forward observer" has direct LOS and the shooter doesn't (as in a series of hills or forests blocking view), then the shooter can't take advantage of the C3 network. In the case of the my Imperator or the original -1A variant, it would basically just host the company C3 behind cover while firing indirect LRM to support it. (And dam it, I never considered it before. Can you shoot the artemis-equipped missiles for indirect fire and not recieve the +2 bonus? Either way, I might need to reconsider the Artemis on my original design then.)
*Sorry about any confusions of the term "forward observer". I mean it to refer to a closer friendly unit and reserve "spotter" more for indirect fire.

No, MML's can get artemis, if you have the FCS installed for +1t +1crit.

Yeah, MML9s with ArtIVs are among the best IS weapons and could give clan tech a run for it's money if the clans ever developed something similar.
