Overview: New to the rosters of Heretic BattleMechs is the LRE-01X Leraie, currently going through simulator runs and checks, and will soon progress to the prototype stage, assuming it actually PASSES the checks...
With the potential development of such a lemon, rumours are abounding about the alleged origins of the Leraie, with no less than three stories being circulated. Of which is the most interesting, is the idea that it was originally based off the designs for a BattleMech which did not go into heavy production, the SNP-2R Snapper...
It has been difficult to confirm this with Heretic BattleMechs however, because as soon as anyone mentions the Snapper or its producer, Johnson 'Mechworks Incorporated, all Employees present make the Sign of the Cross, and endeavour to change the subject as soon as possible...
Named after a Demon who appears as an Archer, Heretic BattleMechs was hoping for it to be the first in a line of BattleMechs with complimentary capabilities, but with the 'Mechs performance under intense scrutiny even before the prototype is built, it may be scrapped before it has had its chance to shine.
Capabilities: The Leraie is a curious design, being that it is a light 'mech, not built for speed, scouting, or indeed, within any rational mindset.
Instead, it happens to back a trio of Dynamics 10 Racks, and an amply supply of ammunition.
Indeed, it is designed to be marketed to civil defence organisations and militias, where its role - static missile support - can be utilised to the fullest.
However, the Leraie overall is not an effective design. Placement of the Missile racks means the 'mech bleeds heat very inefficently, causing the 'MechWarrior to ration his firing very carefully.
The saving grace however, are the ammunition bins fitted with CASE. In a full load, the Leraie is capable of holding over 480 long range missiles.
The bins are easily ejected, and the ammunition feed systems are capable of using not only the standard sized NARC capable missiles, but loading the larger and heavier missile munitions now being marketed across the Inner Sphere.
Speed is abysmal for its size - although faster than an UrbanMech, the Leraie cannot outrun most things that would be sent to hunt it. Its armour is also atrocious for its size, and its backup weapons include a single Extended Range Medium Laser.
For 2.5 Million C-Bills, you get a missile launching monstrosity, capable of laying minefields before approching armies, don't don't expect to run away like a pansy when they get too close...
Variants:
Numerous drawing board prototype variations exist, however most adhere to the tri-set launcher setup.
Trading out to a Light Engine and a different Ferro Fibrous armour setup nets the design only a marginal increase in armour.
The most radical refit however, drops two tons of ammunition, the centerline launcher and the Endo Steel structure supports for a complicated Stealth and Heat dissipation system.
As far as addressing the actual design problems of the battlemech, the radical redesign does nothing. However, it was postulated that then changing the launches to Short Ranged variants would make a heavy Ambush battlemech - but lacking in armour and direct punch to survive against anything but the most lightest of targets.
Additional: This is based roughly off my 'Tunguska' design, which had urbie-like movement and a trio of LRM-10s... It did however, have half the ammo, and double heat sinks... It was probably more efficient overall, but cost more in money...
NARC capable missiles are almost required for it... I could not justify utilising Artemis-IV on it, because I would like to free up tonnage for more armour... NARC munitions and a fast carrier - like a Raven, would work best... The first of the Complimentary designs to the Leraie would pack a NARC Launcher... Or more probably, an iNARC once it becomes available to the Lyran Alliance - as of 3067, its WoB/Com/FWL only.
The Leraie however, lives for Thunder-Augmented Munitions... With one of these, you can throw out a massive minefield very quickly, and stack them up to increase their damage...
I figure its an average tribute to the Snapper... Centre Torso weapon, inefficient weapons, poor speed and armour...
Its one of the few designs I have which utilise Endo-Steel Structure. I try not to cut that corner, I think its a little more flavoursome when you deal with the small bonus of ferro fibrous, rather than the Endo Steel tonnage limits.. Plus the change to ferro fibe is something which can be done in the field, changing the structure is not...

would think the speed would be a handicap in the field. Though triple lrm 10s is a nice touch to a light mech. Do you intend on using different ammo types? If not, I would suggest dropping a ton, since it seems excesive, and put in somthing else. I would suggest some sort of electronics, but a second laser would work as well.
Also curious on the lack of a left hand. Guessing arm ends in the laser. Any thoughts on why you went with that configuration?
I could see it being used in a defensive position with reloads readily available, but there are other designs better suited for that. I will agree it looks to be a good mine field laying machine, as long as there isn't that many thing shooting at you.

Well, 16 volleys total isn't very excessive to me. Lasts about a game , better than 8 volleys total.

Ok. I see what I did wrong. Forgot the 24 shots was total for the ammo location not per ton. Sorry, that is my fault. And 12, not 8 with 3 tons of ammo, is a little light for a mech that uses the lrms as the primary weapon is a little light.

1) The Speed is a definate and deliberate handicap. This is an absurd design, and honestly, you'd be better off getting a Vehicle to do the Job.
2) Four Tons of Ammunition. I simply put standard LRMs on there, but the intention is definately to have different ammunition bins as required for different jobs. Even a "Standard" Loadout should be at least half NARC capable, and paired with a suitable spotter.
3) I also originally modelled the arms as spindly little things... So it ended with a Gun-barrel and not a Hand on one side. Hence, drop the Actuator. In a more Tech'd out Version, replacing with Light Engine and Heavy Ferro, I ended up with no crits free for some reason, so I think I dropped the hand actuator there and didn't bother replacing it.
4) Its definately for the Militia who wants to *Look* like they're using Top-of-the-Line BattleMechs, but really, its not...
They're kinda like the Alfa Romeo of the BattleMech World...

So it's like that one mech that uses a heavy rifle "dressed" to look like a more impressive AC/20 or gauss rifle instead? (The name eludes me)
