Once a pre-eminent mech manufacturer in the Inner Sphere, Randam Mechwerks was nearly annihilated during the Jihad, surviving assets joined Devlin Stone's rebellion. During the assault on Terra, Randam operatives were able to recover two Blakist Omega hulks for research purposes. While the company re-established itself after the war, entering the lucrative workmech market, but military production was never neglected and research continued. Randam provided critical support in developing the Ares superheavy.
This proved invaluable in developing the most ambitious mech design program in history, Project Jotun. A series of high-powered mechs beyond anything made before.
The Nightmare was the first in the series, but the name proved prophetic in more than one way, work started in the 3080's and was troubled by setback after setback. It wasn't until Randam was called to help iron out the Ares' flaws, that they were able to get the Nightmare working … with a vengeance.
Able to obliterate 6 tons of armour in one salvo, the Nightmare was designed to surpass any mech, Inner Sphere or Clan in service in 3080.
