I understand that it would not be very useful but I was wondering why you can't.

They have them on worker mechs. I honestly don't see why they couldn't be on battle mechs.
Granted it would be horribly screwed, since no sinks and the extra heavy ice would make it almost laughable on movement and equipment.

If you want to spend the money, it may actually make a good training mech. Slow, but not concerned if the engine gets damaged, though it might be a one shot wonder. One engine hit and it's done. And it does need to be asked.
Does the engine explode when it is hit, like vehicles do?
Same with the fuel tank, since it would need one as well.

I'm pretty sure you CAN put ICE engines on standard battlemechs, but no one ever does because as you said, they're not useful.

I designed an ICE Locust that I posted on here a while back. Same weapons, but 4/6 movement and less armour.

Check it out.

You can. See Maximum Tech, Revised Edition, p64 ("Low Tech and Utility 'Mechs.")

An ICE battlemech still has some advantages over a modded work mech, but nothing crazy. I'm thinking the targeting and comm systems, and ejection seat, plus "standard" frame versus industrial frame, but nothing crazy. I only see it coming up when a planet/factory can build everything except the fusion engine. I think Branson had built something like this in one of the PDF TROs?

use a Fission engine. Lighter than ICE of the same rating, you get 5 heat sinks in the engine, you don't need power amps for energy weapons, you can operate in a vacuum. You can also use the Heavy Gauss weapons.

And a lower tech world could create them if that is what you are roleplaying

If by "lighter" you mean "considerably heavier".

A 225 ICE weighs 10 tons, a 225 Fission 17.5 tons, while being somewhat more expensive than even Fusion engines of the same rating.

Engine Rating 225

ICE Cell Fission Comp.* Std.* Light* XL*

20.0 12.0 17.5 15.0 10.0 7.5 5.0

its cool the 10 ton 225 is just the regular fusion one. ICE 225 is twenty

TM, page 48 has the master engine table.. (it is not the MASTER master one however, its missing large engines, XXL, etc.)
