Where did you the info on how a C-bill rates to a dollar?

If I remember rightly, it was printed in a couple of the Sourcebooks... (Of course, it was an adjusted dollar, based on the year it was printed)

The original mechwarrior role playing book, page 103 right have column under the heading Comstar bills (c-bills) says a c-bill is worth about 5 U.S. dollars from the year 1986.
And that particular book is copyrighted in 1986. Damn I feel old now.

So with that, 7.5 million for a small mech really isn't that far out when you look at prices. 50 million for a 10 mil c-bill assault would be cheap compared to some of todays weapons. And some how they can't hit anything a mile away.

Its even worse when you work in the rate of inflation.

http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

$1.00 USD in 1986, adjusted for inflation, is worth $2.17 in today's dollars.

+117%

So double all the values again, and then a little more...

In the Zeus x4 thread there is a discussion about why the unit was ever researched.
I understand the Zeus being a Lyran brand model, but I have a question I would like someone to answer the best they can.

Why did they make a 400 xxl? It is a complete waste of money and resources and except for the upgrade Zeus, the Berserker (maybe), and possibly the atlas, what units would actually use this engine?
I can see the 300 or maybe 275 rated engines, as they are work horses of the mech world, but the 400 makes no sense.

Is there any other reason them to justify the lack of funds for real units that would explain this?
Even something off the wall might help.

It would be nice to hear from someone closer to the planners on this one.
