My Blurb:
Redesign of the Ye Olde Speed Bump concept. Tonnage increased by 5 tons. Old Autocannon replaced by a much more effective Snub-Nose PPC (perfect for the tight confines of Urban Combat. Accuracy enhanced by the addition of Actuator Enhancement System in the Right Arm. Anti-Infantry capability provided by a pair of Light Machine Guns. But most significantly, Reinforced Structure and Hardened Armour make the new "Urbie" much more difficult to destroy or disable.

Cost has increased by nearly 75%, but the improved durability should be very much worth it.

I will probably get the hatred going on, but I would think the urbie should fade away. Even using it as crowd control, it just doesn't seem worth it to me.

But I do like the idea of having an energy weapon used in it. If not for keeping with IS weapons, I would think a heavy large laser would be a better weapons for it. But then it isn't clantech so no real issues with it.

With battle armor becoming more popular, I would think the urbie is to slow anymore, and not equipped to deal with them.

The Urbie was never a "good" design, but it had its uses. Fluff-wise, they are inexpensive to buy, easy to maintain, more versatile than a tank thanks to the Jump Jets, and tough enough to hamper the attackers until the better defenders could engage.

The biggest downside is that even a "cheap" 'Mech is expensive, and building something that is doomed to garrison duty is somewhat wasteful.

Here's my original AES-Equipped UrbanMech upgrade, dubbed the "Bionic Beer Can". The basic upgrade replaced the AC/10 with LB 10-X, saving enough tonnage to mount both Cluster and Slug ammo. Dropping the mysterious 11th Heat Sink saved an additional ton to mount the AES. Finishing the upgrade with both Ferro Fibrous Armour and Endo Steel boosted armour coverage by 2 points and saved 2 more tons; 1 ton to add effective Anti-Infantry capability with a Small X-Pulse Laser, and 1 ton to protect the AC Ammo with CASE II.
