The Boxcar is the standard lightweight, speedy armored personnel carrier of Crossroads (alt. history faction). This battle-wagon is around five times more expensive than the closest equivalent, the Heavy Wheeled APC and half of the capacity, but possesses some quirks that allow it to operate closer to the front lines safely compared to other APCs.
The first is its Standard Fusion Engine, which requires effectively no fuel and logistics to operate. This powers the vehicle to an adequate 33 meters per second at maximum speed, a tad quicker than the HWAPC. In addition, the Standard Fusion Engine powers its energy weaponry, which keeps the vehicle itself virtually independent from logistical convoys. As its independent from fuel and ammunition concerns, the price of one unit and upkeep between the Boxcar and cheaper ICE vehicles is lower than it appears on the price tag.
More on the weaponry itself, the Boxcar is actually a re-purposing of a considerably heavier IFV prototype. The turret was lightened by selecting very light-weight weaponry, in this case a Medium Laser variant and a flamer. The IHML provides limited short-range protection against armored threats such as Scorpion Tanks. The Flamer provides efficient protection against light infantry elements and can participate in creating artificial concealment to infantry in the right conditions as well.
Its armor protection is rather spread out because of the turret, but is rated to (barely) protect from Heavy Gauss Rifles from the sides and front. The protection is enough to allow the vehicle to survive a light ambush long enough to return fire.
The three ton infantry bay is usually used to transport an infantry foot platoon, a Shocktrooper PAL squad, or a reduced four-man Light BA squad, usually Phantom-class Armor. (Both of these are Crossroad native designs as well).
The Boxcar is used alongside main-line tanks and battlemechs to provide armored regiments with infantry accompaniment. Boxcars perform particularly well in an urban environment, where the inherently short range of both the infantry and the Boxcar is considerably less of a problem. The Boxcar-Infantry combination can effectively and cheaply dispatch defending city elements that would be too risky and expensive for high-class vehicles and mechs to follow.

Any ideas on variant to this? Like electronics unit? Or just use other vehicles that already exist?
It does look like it would be a nasty surprise to units getting in range of the laser.
