I love the Clan Hellstar so much I tried to make an Inner Sphere equivalent. (Like the IS attempts at a Timber Wolf (Rakshasa) or Nova (Black Hawk KU))
This somehow works, which amazes me. 17.5 tons of armor is, enough, not ideal, but enough. Every single crit is used! ALL the tech is IS tech, even the double 20 heat sinks. I avoided the crappy IS XL engine instead using a Light, increasing durability substantially. Additional weight is saved with an endo-composite structure, but space is saved via a Small Cockpit and a Compact Gyro. (space is really important in this design, since it is restricted to IS double heat sinks, which suck at 3 crits each.)
The weapons rock; FOUR heavy PPC's. Sixty points of ammo-free damage output. Normally there is only 40 points of heat reduction though, which is why a Radical Heat Sink is included, bumping heat dissipation to the required 60 as long as it is running. (For safety the pilot should probably fire at a 4/4/3 rotation to let the radical heat sink system cool down.)
I think this design comes closer than most other IS 'copycat' designs in matching its inspiration.. the original Hellstar also has four ERPPCs. Compared to this design, Hellstar has a range and modest speed advantage, but does equal damage.
