The Meerkat Light Reconnaisance Vehicle is a Clan Diamond Shark export vehicle that is sold primarily to Periphery and some Inner Sphere buyers. It is visually similar to the BRDM-2 The use of advanced yet fairly easy-to-maintain materials such as the clan machinegun, combined with the vehicle's cheapness, made the Meerkat particularly popular in the periphery and in reserve groups.

Each Meerkat is equipped with a 60-rated engine which propels the vehicle to a respectable 33 meters per second. The Meerkat has a limited amphibious capacity and a dune-buggy suspension system that allows it to retain some mobility in riverine environments and full mobility in beaches and other sandy geographies. In addition to its light weight, the Meerkat has nearly unrivaled maneuverability in comparison to other wheeled platform due to these characteristics, which increases its potential target audience.

The Armor plating on the most common Meerkat version, the ICE, is 2 tons standard. The SFE variant increases this to a better, but still lacking, 2.5 tons.

The standard ICE Meerkat is armed with twin LMGs and an automatically reloading SRM launcher on each side of the turret. The LMGs together have a similar suppression power as a single IS MG, but at the same weight and a higher effective range. The SRM is present for use against the odd technical or APC vehicle, but it's often loaded with Fragmentation to add an extra punch against infantry.

The FCE Meerkat is less common than the other two due to difficulties in supplying the hydrogen fuel required for the engine. A Micro-Pulse Laser replaces the twin LMG setup. It has overall superior anti-infantry and anti-armor performance but suffers in effective range. Its twin SRMs are replaced with a single LRM-5 pack, which vastly increases its potential range for similar firepower.

The SFE Meerkat is a fairly popular alternative to the ICE Meerkat for those who can afford the additional cost. In addition to its extra armor plating, the SFE Meerkat sports an ERSL quadpack that can liquidate armor at point-blank range. A micro-pulse laser is mounted on the left side of the turret to retain anti-infantry capacity. The use of an SFE and a fully energy-reliant weapon system often means that the vehicle pays for itself in the long-run in comparison to the other two Meerkat variants.

Interesting design.
Is there a variant for the ICE that swaps the srm for the lrm?
Or the same thing with the fusion, minus the sls?
I know it kind of defeats the purpose of not needing reloads, but I can see this being used as a light idf or fire support. It would be easy to miss some light vehicles like this moving to the flank across a river.

Small nit pick about the fluff. I am assuming the srm has a single tube on each side of the turret, not an automatically reloading SRM launcher on each side of the turret. It makes it sound like you have 2 srms 2s. One on each side.
(yeah, it is a nit pick)

Yep, it's a single tube on each side.

Now that's a fun, versatile little buggy.
