Overview: The Arc-Hammer remains a mystery to this day. The first one was uncovered by Lostech hunters in the early 3000s, since then nearly a dozen have been found across the Inner Sphere and even in the Periphery. So far no information about this mysterious design has been uncovered in any archive, including those of Comstar and the Clans.
Capabilities: The Arc-Hammer appears to be a Frankenmech, a fusion of an Archer and a Warhammer, but unlike most Frankenmechs, these mechs appear factory made as some parts have been extensively redesigned to function properly. For example the upper leg is clearly patterened upon that of the Warhammer, but the lower leg is identical to an Archer's.
All recovered mechs were fully functional or at least were as such when they were put into caches. Tests showed that the Arc Hammer was every bit as capable as any mech of the Succession War era with parts made to their original Star League specifications and even have the proper identification numbers though usually outside known production runs, a conundrum not even the original producers could answer.
Although the first few recovered ones ended up in museums, some were used in combat. The left side resembles the standard Warhammer 6R configuration with an arm-mounded PPC and torso mounted lasers and machinegun. The right side matches the Archer with an LRM20 an arm-mounded medium laser and a rearwards facing laser. 16 single heat sinks and 11,5 tons of armour put them roughly halfway between both designs with better cooling capacity than an Archer and increased armour over the Warhammer.
Battle History: Three, maybe four mechs are reported to have been used in combat, discovered between the 3030s and the end of the Clan invasion they performed beyond expections with none of the problems inherent to jury-rigged frankenmechs. Indeed one pilot submitted that it would be a shame that this wasn't in full production. More mechs were found during the Jihad and the Fedcom civil war, leading some to theorize that the Arc-Hammer was a new design being field tested. The rebuttal being that no design was field tested over a period of half a century and more.
Because of their rarity and lack of advanced technology existing Arc-Hammers were withdrawn from service and ended up in places like the NAIS, museums and private collections.
By the early 3100s a newly recovered Arc-Hammer was sold at auction for a staggering 300 million C-Bills, promting at least one attempt to build a fake one, it also sparked a brief fad for cobbling together two battlemechs and several plans were drawn up to build new amalgamated mechs, but no actual mech made it into production.
Deployment: Today the Arc-Hammer is considered a curiosity, most being kept in private collections or museums, studies were made by Comstar and the NAIS revealing no information about their origin.
Variants: None.
Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors: The original Arc-Hammer was discovered in April 3005 on the Davion world of Rio, leading some to believe it may have been planted there by Wolf's Dragoons for future use though this has been repeatedly denied by Dragoon spokespersons, who added that they never deployed an Arc-Hammer in their entire lineup. Part numbers and specifications match those of known producers and parts at that time, but so far the numbers are not part of any known production batch and show no signs of having been tampered with.
Forensic investigation showed that the mech may have been built around the end of the Star League or even in the early days of the First Succession War. The interest was so great that at one point several Clan investigators looked into their own archives, but drew a complete blank.
