The fluff behind this one is in the wake of the Clan Invasion, the Inner Sphere sought solutions to the threat posed by the superior Clans. With some advanced Clan Tech to make XL engines a reality, and the threat of Elemental Battle Armor, the Gimp was one such Inner Sphere solution,
Using Pulse Laser Technology and a Reinforced Chassis, the Gimp allows ample speed and accuracy while delivering a single squad of Battle Armor to the fight, as well as supporting them. Almost as fast as a Locust, but much better armed and armored, the Gimp was not only meant to answer the threat of Elemental Battle Armor, but also to allow the Inner Sphere to utilize their own Battle Armor to help combat the superior Clan 'Mechs.
Hyper extending lower arm acuators allow the Large Pulse Laser to flip into the rear arc, while the Medium Pulse Laser is mounted alongside a Hand actuator with a Battlefist. Poor sealing and inherent instability made this 'Mech hard to pilot and dangerous on hostile worlds, however. But it's independence from ammo and Multi-Trac Targeting System made up for this deficiency. As well as it's Omnimech Technology making it easier to repair and refit overall.
