At the advent of the FedCom Civil War and fresh on the heels of Kallon Industires' K1 model, the folks at Defiance Industries decided to build their own Layman variant. Unlike the Kallon K1, the Defiance 1D was a full, ground up rebuild complete with the opening of several new lines on Hesperus II and Furillo. The state of the art Edasich 300 Light Fusion Engine is mounted on an in-house Endo-Steel Chassis. A Defiance 1001 ER PPC is this Layman's main cannon, while an Artemis-Enchanced Coventry Starfire LRM-15 provides superior indirect fire support. Each 1D mounts a Zippo Flamer and a pair of ER Medium Lasers.
The Furillo line's 1D had Defiance Model XII ER Medium Lasers, while the Hesperus II line had RamTech 1500Z ER Medium Lasers instead. A later factory conversion released as a field refit replaced the Coventry Starfire with a standard Doombud LRM-15 and an extra ton of ammo for extended campaigns where Artemis-capable LRMs would be at a premium.
