An odd thought came up while discussions of targeting in the game brought up the point of how poorly the battle computers are.

They used laser communications to control ships in battle with the sds system, that were a distance away, as well as fighting using odd moves, yet were able to keep the comms systems tracked for that, but yet can not keep a laser focused on something close by?

If you want to suggest the firing unit moving, then a turret on a building would have a stable platform, just like a comms array.

And how does that affect things like ballistics or missiles? I understand some things like fuel/powder to propel the objects, but the inability to hit even at a klick is a bit much.

Anyways. The distance and speed of connecting laser comms yet you can't do that with a battlecomp is the subject here.

Well, there's the Practical Reason, and there's the Game Reason.

Practical: Modern (21st century) AFV cannons can hit targets upwards of 10km away -- that's 10,000 meters. Divide 10,000/30, and realize just how bleedin' *BIG* playing areas would have to be in order to accommodate that kind of range.

Game: When one factors in all the stuff like obstructions (mountains, forests, etc.), the relatively-short timeframe of a turn (10 sec.), weather, and all that other fun stuff no one thinks about (in some cases, this even includes the rotation of the planet!) -- well: In Theory an infantryman's rifle can hit a target 1,000m away; in Practice, he's unlikely to take a shot, or score a hit, at much more than 100m.

There's lots more detail involved, but I won't bore you with it.

Thought came up on star league's 'superior' items.
From the looks of it, it seems they are nothing more then saying the ceramic barrel of a glock was the superior upgrade to the 3025's ball and cap gun.
There really isn't that big of a deal with alot of the weapons. A little range, or the special abilities like the cluster rounds, but the idea of the golden age just doesn't seem to fit.

Second thought came up. Is the slug round for the lbx cannon the same shot as a normal cannon of the same size?
Like the ac 5 ammo is the same as the slug lbx 5?
