------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
Built using surplus materials and based on an older prototype, the Viper
MkVIII has become a major selling unit for Actaeon Aerospace Consortium and
their orbital factory and yards in orbit around Neptune. The company knows
that it has lived on the graces of ComStar and the Word of Blake since the
fall of the Star League and the collapse of the Terran Hegemony. With this in
mind they have sold to both sides as well as those who are okayed by the
ruling power block of the Sol System.

The Viper MkVIII has an impressive weapons compliment and one that allows it
to engage targets of different types as well as being able to preform
different roles.

==Capabilities:==
Armed with an Imperator Zeta-a Autocannon/20, this gives the craft a hard
punch to just about any target existing. Not much can handle a blast from the
Imperator Zeta and live to talk about it. Add in a Zeus Long Range Class 5
missile pack and you have the ability to keep most enemy fighters and other
craft at range or weary of what else the fighter might be carrying. For close
in work the trio of Vulcan Fire 2 short range missiles and a dual Ceres Arms
Medium Laser, one in each wing allow the MkVIII to get in and give as good as
it can get. The rounding out of the trio is the ChisComp 32 Small Laser
mounted in the aft, is a nice surprise when it opens fire on engaging enemy
units.

==Variants:==
There are three variants in testing, one drops the Imperator Zeta-a and adds
fuel and secondary energy weapons. Another is working on using a combo of light
Gauss Rifles in place of the Imperator Zeta-a and Zeus weapon systems. And the
third is more of interceptor variant replacing the weapons for those more akin
to dog-fighting.

Is this a reference to Battlestar Galactica?

I might rename the TTS to "Capricorn-12 DIrection RAnge DIStance"

If you decide to do any BSG-inspired campaigns, then you can give it some situational Design Quirks to add some spice:

Against Inner Sphere units, it receives:
- Improved Sensors
- Improved Communications
- Improved Targeting (Long Range)
- Multi-Trac
- Battle Computer (+2 Initiative Bonus)
- Combat Computer (-4 Heat Generated per turn)
- Improved Missile Guidance: If not performing Indirect Fire, then the SRMs will function as their Streak Counterparts, along with a -2 To-Hit Modifier. LRMs will function as a hybrid of Swarm-i LRMs (area of effect without any friendly fire), Semi-Guided LRMs (which can be guided by friendly TAG systems), Mortars (can't be hit by AMS) and standard munitions. Finally, all missiles can be fired at targets directly adjacent to the fighter's forward firing arc, can't be evaded (space physics and no squishy pilots), and provide a -2 penalty against Intercept attempts by AMS systems.

Against [s]Cylon[/s] Clan units, it receives:
- Poor Targeting (All Ranges)
- Sensor Gosts
- Haunted: Every turn, the pilot must make a successful Piloting Check at a +3 Target Modifier, or the fighter will perform a random action outside of their control. If the pilot loses consciousness, then the fighter falls completely under enemy control and is treated as if it had a Drone Cockpit.
- Hard-to-Pilot
- Difficult Ejection
- Non-functional Component: Communications
- Ammunition Feed Problem: Missiles
