The following are a bunch of non-canon Fission-engined Battlemechs using the BT Construction rules, but using very (relatively) low-tech equipment like Fission Engines, Commercial Armor, Primitive Armor, and Heavy Rifles. Even weapons like Autocannons are not available at the time these Battlemechs exist.
The general idea is that if you re-arrange the order in which technology is developed, you can end up with many more viable unit designs using existing equipment that exist at least for a short era. For instance, if the Chemical Laser was an IS invention and was produced before the advent of Fusion Lasers, these lasers would have seen far heavier production than they actually did in-universe on ICE vehicles. If Autocannons and even their variants UACs & LB-Xs were present before the PPC or the Gauss Rifle, if not even the standard Lasers, they would be seen as far more useful than they are in-universe. If ballistic-reinforced armor and impact-resistant armor were available while Autocannons, Rifle Cannons, and the occasional Hatchet were the main 'Mech-scale weapon on the battlefield, they would see far more production and use in that era than they actually did. And so on and so forth.
In this theoretical era that these Fission Battlemechs exist in, the technology available is basically primitive armor, fission engines, Flamers, Rifle Cannons, Rocket Launchers, and physical weapons. Battlemechs are still very much in a prototype state and cannot carry much more than similar ICE tracked/wheeled vehicles, but their fission powerplants allows them to use ammo-less Flamers and they retain some mobility advantages. Physical attacks may even prove to be more potent than actual guns in this primitive era.

These look like they belong in the Post-Jihad Periphery. I like it!
I actually tried to experiment with Primitive tech myself, and wanted to see just how badly I could butcher iconic Clan OmniMechs using a restricted techbase.
I'm not a big fan of Rocket Launchers though, because they're non-reloadable, so what I tend to use is 'Mech Mortars. I also often give my mechs Tracks.
